It seems unreal that I‘ll have a teenager in a few years! This book helped me prepare both my emotions and how to tackle tough conversations with my boys. The main goal is to inform and keep channels of communication open. I hope to approach this puberty stuff with humor and understanding. I‘ll need to revisit this book often, as it does a great job of defining each concept (ie-body hair), how it‘s changed over time and how to talk about it.

Centique I have a newly minted teenage boy! One thing ive found surprising is that he is quite comfortable talking about body stuff - if he brings it up first that is. Im not sure if its a generational thing or just my kid, but it has made those conversations much less awkward than i expected. Still got the teen argumentativeness however! Best wishes to you for the years to come xxx 8mo

Highly recommended for parents of adolescents from ~9-20, this has a great structure for each chapter: what we‘re discussing, the science of it, what has changed in the past 20-40 years, and words from people recently through it. Everything from acne and BO to gender identity, sexual orientation, and hookup culture. Overwhelming but I think it will prove very useful.

ravenlee I told husband he should read it so he can better understand and engage with our kid. His response? “I‘m not really that interested” accompanied by an eyeroll so loud I could hear it when I told him about the contents. Nice to have a supportive, understanding partner in this. 😡 1y
Kenyazero @ravenlee That's such an infuriating response 😡 very glad you read it though! 1y
julesG Lovely when the other parent is so engaged. I've just had a similar encounter with my children's father. 🙄🙄🙄 1y
Tamra 😑 that is NOT helpful. (edited) 1y

My most recent acquisition. I don‘t typically buy hardcovers (really new releases either, except series), but I was going into B&N to pick up some orders for the kiddo‘s book advent calendar (which seems like a good idea until you‘re wrapping 24 books on November 30 after dinner) and my mom said she‘d seen this on a morning show. Maybe it will help with the next couple years! 😆😬😭

thegirlwiththelibrarybag You‘ll be a book wrapping pro by the end of the evening! Best advent calendar ever! 2y
dabbe Let the wrapping begin! 🤩🤣🤗 2y
