Marine One
Marine One | James Huston

The president rushes across the South Lawn through a pounding thunderstorm to Marine One to fly to Camp David late at night. His advisers plead with him not to fly, but he insists. He has arranged a meeting that only three people in his administration know about. After fighting its way through the brutal thunderstorm on the way to Camp David, Marine One crashes into a ravine in Maryland, killing all aboard. The government blames the European manufacturer of the helicopter and accuses them of killing the president. Senate Investigations and Justice Department accusations multiply as Mike Nolan, a Marine Corps reserve helicopter pilot and trial attorney in civilian life, is hired to defend the company from the criminal investigations, then from a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the most notorious lawyer in America on behalf of the First Lady. Nolan knows that to prevail in the firestorm against his client, he has to find out what really caused Marine One to crash, and why the president threw caution aside to go to a meeting no one seems to know about. To clear his client, Nolan must win the highest-profile trial of the last hundred years with very little working for him, and everything working against him. Marine One expertly mixes political intrigue with courtroom drama and fast-paced action in the most exciting thriller of the year.

If you like legal thrillers, or want to test waters with a book in the sub-sub-genre, then I recommend this book. In a DC storm, Marine One goes down killing the President & all aboard. There's charges against the European helo manufacturer by the government & a suit by the First Lady. Marine pilot & attorney, Mike Nolan, has an uphill battle. Smart, tense, page-turning intrigue! #PairWith: Ketel One vodka martini, wet, stirred, on the rocks.

becausetrains Ketel One? Not a Kamikaze or Car Bomb? 😉 8y
MrBook 😂😂😂👏🏻👍🏻 Nah, too much DC courtroom and elegant restaurant and suited conference rooms for that 😎👌🏻. There's muscular action too, but not enough to counterbalance the brain stuff@😁. 8y
MrBook Ketel One has a bit of a fiery aura about it too. Absolut would be more appropriate for a Wall Street-esque legal thriller 😊👍🏻. 8y

becausetrains Not a problem. I was also thinking Fireball or Bulleit would be appropriate 🍸 also, this sounds a fair bit like 8y
LauraBeth This sounds like a good read! 8y
MrBook @becausetrains Hub, yeah, it does based on the summary. I'll check out "Airframe", I'm a Crichton fan anyway ???. @LauraBeth It was ?! I went into it thinking I'd give the sub-genre a shot. Plus it was available in my favorite format. And I wound up being impressed ?. 8y
LauraBeth @mrbook I used to work in marketing for the aviation/defense industry so this rings my book bells 😀 I can buy into this plot happening 8y
MrBook @LauraBeth 😁👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻! It's very edumacational and plausible 😎👍🏻. 8y
audiothing I have never taken to legal procedurals either books or TV. The court room stuff goes on and on. Probably very clever stuff though 8y
MrBook @audiothing Yeah, that's why I've shied away from it myself. I'm glad I picked this one up though 😊 8y
