Akira meets Aliens, and Annihilation meets Evangelion, in this coming-of-age monster tale from award-winning graphic novelist Chris Gooch. Twelve years after a disastrous explosion, young Hailey is dropped off by her mum at a holiday camp in a dilapidated shopping mall. Alienated from the other kids, she connects with an eerie older teen named Jen... but soon dark horrors awaken, and the two new friends are caught up in a cataclysmic battle between two terrifying creatures who have been lying dormant all this time. One of Australia's most acclaimed young graphic novelists, Chris Gooch expertly crafts a taut and intimate thriller about mothers and daughters, the monstrous and the mundane, and the power of friendship in the midst of catastrophe.

This Australian graphic novel is FANTASTIC. A girl is dropped off for a holiday programme in an abandoned shopping centre near the site of a mysterious explosion. But there is something more going on. A bit Kaiju Preservation Society, a touch Aliens, even a wee bit E.T. And a lovely friendship story. Great art too.

Lauredhel Don't read the blurb, it completely gives away the mystery / ending 1mo

This is so good! This is a great little kaiju story with friendship, quickly drawn but believable characters (I see you military guy, whose mask is resolutely under your nose at a biohazard site), and really striking imagery.

Lauredhel This was SO GOOD, why am I not hearing buzz about it? 1mo
NotCool Maybe the distribution is different, because it‘s from Australia? But I had never heard of the author until I picked this up randomly. 1mo
