*** FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE APPEAL *** 'Agatha Christie for the 21st century' - THE TIMES 'The queen of tricksy crime' - SUNDAY TIMES Six Students. One Murder. Your Time Starts Now... The students of Royal Hastings University's new Multimedia Art course have been trouble from day one. Acclaimed artist Alyson wants the department to revolve around her. Ludya struggles to balance her family and the workload. Jonathan has management experience but zero talent for art. Lovely Patrick can barely operate his mobile phone, let alone professional design software. Meanwhile blustering Cameron tries to juggle the course with his job in the City and does neither very well. Then there's Jem. A gifted young sculptor, she's a promising student... but cross her at your peril. The year-long course is blighted by accusations of theft, students setting fire to one another's artwork, a rumoured extra-marital affair and a disastrous road trip. But finally they are given their last assignment: to build an interactive art installation for a local manufacturer. With six students who have nothing in common except their clashing personal agendas, what could possibly go wrong? The answer is: murder. When the external examiner arrives to assess the students' essays and coursework, he becomes convinced that a student was killed on the course and that the others covered it up. But is he right? And if so, who is dead, why were they killed, and who is the murderer? Only a close examination of the evidence will reveal the truth. Your time starts now...

2nd book finished for #20In4

A very cleverly written book by Janice Hallett. My favourite would still be the Appeal, but this was another very good read with some twists and shocks as you read the book. Love how it is told through messages and course assignments. I would recommend this.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I couldn‘t believe how off base I was with my guesses with this one 🤣 very humbling! 3d
Andrew65 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I know exactly what you mean. I definitely didn‘t see some things coming, or even suspect them. 3d
DieAReader Looking forward to reading it! 2d

Started the latest Janice Hallett book for #20in4.

Love the way her books are told through online messages, text messages, etc. A great way to build a context for a mystery and the books usually build one as they go along, and all about the interplay between the characters. Thoroughly recommend The Appeal.

LiteraryinPA The Appeal is still my favorite of hers, but I did like this one a lot! There was one plot point that made me gasp out loud! 4d

A story so twisty, I had to restart it as soon as I finished. Excellent audio, highly recommended.

Hallett stands out as a star in storytelling. In The Examiner, the story unfolds as a collection of Doodle messages, WhatsApp, etc. the story involves a group project (horror unto itself), and a clash of artists…or a chaotic scheme of mixed-up-meddling madness (with mystery). Hallett must be read to be appreciated. Awarded with distinction.

This might be my favourite Hallett yet? She‘s such a master at constructing an interesting mystery and then presenting it in just the most imaginative way!

emz711 Just looks like a Richard Osman book so much 1mo

A very enjoyable and cleverly written epistolary style mystery. I didn‘t always know what was going on, the plot is quite complex but it all came together at the end. Not my favourite book by this author but still a worthwhile read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A library book. I‘ve read the author‘s previous three books and very much enjoyed them.

I didn‘t think the concept for this one was as strong or interesting as Alperton Angels BUT I was still glued to the pages and was successfully lead up and down several garden paths, without ever really being suspicious in the right direction… which doesn‘t happen to me all that often - another well crafted story from Janice Hallett.

I hadn't planned to read this on my lunch today, but then the reserve came in and I couldn't resist diving right into it!

janeycanuck OMG, so jealous!! I‘m first on the holds list but the single copy coming to my library hasn‘t come in yet! 3mo
bookwench @janeycanuck Funny, it doesn\'t have any holds at my library, despite my trying to interest people in her books. I think not everyone is as entranced with the epistolary style as I am. BTW, my fave was Twyford--what was anybody else\'s? 2mo
janeycanuck @bookwench I‘m STILL waiting for the library‘s order to come in for this!! My favourite has been Alperton Angels but I haven‘t read the Appeal yet. Or this one! 2mo

Hallett‘s books are always a crazy ride! This one wasn‘t my favorite but I still liked it and flew through it. The style of telling the story through emails, texts, memos, reports, etc is fun to read between other denser books.

Not my favourite of hers, but I just love Hallett's style and was nevertheless completely entertained. Our was at times a little too convoluted, but again it was just so fun that I'm okay with it. Works as a palate cleanser between heavier reads!

Themes: Mystery, Academic Setting, Nontraditional format (emails, text messages, message boards, essays)

I won‘t say much about this since it doesn‘t publish until Sept. 10th 🤐🙊🫢 BUT! I will say that I give it a strong ‘Pick‘ and that once you finish this book you‘re going to want to flip back to page 1 and re-read it 🕵️‍♀️🔎👣👣👣

TheKidUpstairs I love Hallett's mysteries, they're always so much fun to unravel! Glad to hear she's still on form! 4mo
Aims42 @TheKidUpstairs Oh for sure! I can‘t imagine what her writing process is, how she can weave a story together with just emails, texts, etc is simply astounding 🤯 There was a note from her editor in my ARC that included a line that said, “My job, 5 books in, is to trust her” 😆 It‘s a wild ride, per usual lol 4mo
LiteraryinPA I‘m excited for this one! So far I like The Appeal the best. 4mo
Aims42 @LiteraryinLawrence Same here, that‘s my favorite too 😄🙌 4mo

SayersLover I call them the “post weekend blues” when you just don‘t want to go back to work, or you are worn out from the weekend, etc. Then you force yourself to go to work and your day gets worse from there for no apparent reason. Hope your week improves @Aims42 4mo
mcctrish Absolutely and I think you made good choices at the end of the day 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 4mo
jlhammar Can‘t wait for this one! 4mo
Aims42 @SayersLover I think that‘s it! My weekend was kinda full with family stuff so no real downtime and then yeah, work stuff kept piling up 😕 Today was a little better, but it still feels like it‘s been 2 weeks since I posted this 🤣 4mo
Aims42 @mcctrish Lol, Littens are the BEST! You guys always have my back ☺️😍🥰 4mo
Aims42 @jlhammar I‘ve only read her first book and then this one, but this is real good! I like the email and instant message format, it‘s been easy to escape reality while reading this 😁 4mo
