Moon Road
Moon Road: Exquisite portrait of marriage, divorce and reconciliation, for fans of OH WILLIAM | Sarah Leipciger
10 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
For fans of Elizabeth Strout and Barbara Kingsolver: Beautifully observed portrait of marriage, divorce and reconciliation as an estranged couple go on a road trip to uncover a family mystery. 'Sarah Leipciger is a consummate storyteller' RACHEL JOYCE 'Fierce, tragic, lyrical. I just loved it' CLAIRE FULLER 'Tough, tender, wonderful' JOANNA QUINN, author of The Whalebone Theatre 'A road trip into the human heart. Generously alive' FRANCIS SPUFFORD ____________________________ Its irksome to her, how well she knows this man, how much he has changed and how exactly the same he is ... Kathleen and Yannick have not spoken for nineteen years, not since what happened with their daughter. Now, theres unexpected news from the other side of the country, and the call for a road trip they can only make together. As they rattle over two thousand miles in a pick-up, through forests, over mountains and into service stations, an alluring history reveals itself: of fierce love, complicated ex-wives and headstrong children, and of a unique bond that never really went away. As they drive, argue, gossip and reminisce, an unexpected future for this once estranged couple begins to emerge. MOON ROAD captures the wonder and grief of watching our children grow up; of recovering from long buried pain, and rediscovering those closest to us when we think we know all there is to know; and of learning to live and love in a completely new way. Delicately observed, forceful and moving, this story of love, family bonds and the agony of loss is utterly absorbing - and so beautifully written' LUCY ATKINS

I didn‘t connect with the style of writing and not with the characters. I truly didn‘t. Unfortunate but not all can be 5-star reads. 🤷🏻‍♀️

While I‘m ripping through The Bee Sting at a pretty good clip, I own that one and the library is only giving me 7 days to read this one, Moon Road. 🇨🇦

JuniperWilde I loved Moon Road. It‘s my favourite of the year so far. 🙌 4w

This was recommended to me as a book for fans of Strout and Kingsolver and so of course I was right in. This story is told in a measured, dispassionate, observational tone which reminded me a lot of Strout‘s writing in a good way. It‘s about loss and hope, connection and disconnection in a marriage, and it‘s one of those stories that just really gets people for all their flaws. Everything about it felt three dimensional and real.

BarbaraBB I love Strout but am no fan of Kingsolver. This book sounds great though! 2mo

Best book I‘ve read this year - runner up is Claire Keegan‘s So Late in the Day. The main characters are reunited after 3 decades when they get word that their missing daughter‘s bones may have been found on a train on the west coast of Canada. Brilliant prose, every word matters. A gem 5 ⭐️

BookWrym I loved this one two I liked the way we as the reader know what happened but the parents like real life never learn the full story 3mo
JuniperWilde Yes it was brilliant - part character driven and part suspense 2mo

I cannot say enough about Moon Road by Sarah Leipcigar. I was hooked by the end of page one. The main characters are so well developed, the prose is crisp and sharp, and the story sucks you in.

BookWrym Agreed 👍 3mo

Really enjoyed this book I would class it as quiet and character driven.

Estranged husband and wife are reunited for a road trip that may finally provide the answer to what happened to their daughter who disappeared over 20 years ago.

Along the way the reader learns about their relationship why their marriage broke up and we travel to the past and learn what really happened to the daughter.

Definitely reminded me of Strout.

BookWrym I can see this making the Booker Longlist if it is eligible. 4mo
JuniperWilde Agree - I‘m devouring this book. 3mo
