Do Me a Favor | Cathy Yardley
4 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
Cathy Yardley, author of Role Playing, serves up a delectable rom-com about a widowed cookbook writer and a divorced handyman who find that it's never too late for a fresh start.Willa Lieu-Endicott moved from California to the Pacific Northwest to start over. Since her husband's death, she's been struggling to get back her old career as a cookbook ghostwriter. Unfortunately, her latest project--ghostwriting for a viral cooking sensation known more for his washboard abs than his meals--has her stuck.Until she meets her new neighbor.Hudson Clark, the handyman next door, lives on a farm with his parents and two adult children. He's the opposite of everything she's ever known. His happily chaotic life includes biker barbecues, an escape artist dog, and adorably menacing goats. He's also got a sinfully sexy smile and a rumbling bass voice that makes her shiver. He inspires her. From their first meeting, the two fall into an escalating cycle of favors, paybacks...and attraction, even though Willa's trying to keep her distance. They both have their own pasts to deal with. Now, they just have to figure out if they have a future.

Do Me a Favor | Cathy Yardley

There seems to be a new romance subgenre... Actual Adult? I'm loving reading about people in middle age pursuing their dreams, working through their problems, and finding romance.

PuddleJumper I've noticed something similar in cosy mysteries. Lots of MCs in their 40/50s that are finding relationships and friendships etc. 1mo
Faranae That moment in Daniel Cabot where he realizes with horror that he's an adult now (and he's only late 20s) is great, but yeah nice to see a lot more 30s/40s/50s romances. Possibly because that's my age bracket. ☠ 1mo
willaful @Faranae I'm rapidly approaching Old Hag subgenre. 😂 1mo

Do Me A Favor is out now! I enjoyed the ARC a month ago. My previous response:

A cookbook ghost writer inherits a house on a Pacific Northwest island, where there just happens to be a most sexy single-dad handyman. Featuring an endearing dog who brings them together, goats interrupting romantictimes, lots of food, and following your dreams.

#romance #romantsy #contemporaryromance

Lauredhel (cont) I particularly liked that the book didn't follow a typical 3rd-act breakup formula, that they're both in their forties, that they were both going through career issues and direction changes, that the kids (young adults) seemed kinda like real people, and that there wasn't any silly-misunderstanding subplot.

And they both have just a bit of baggage from the past that isn't super horrible trauma, but that they need to grow through (and do)

I'm on Noongar country, so it's Makuru here, not summer. It's been Makuru for about a couple weeks already - the rainy, cool season where the blue and purple flowers bloom, and the wardong (ravens) pair up and the mali (black swans) prep their nests. Perfect reading weather! So yes, I've started, as your Northern seasons mean nothing here.

I'm double dipping in an effort to fill the whole card this Makuru! #SBTBingo @smartbitches #smartbitches

Do Me A Favor is a standalone Yardley contemporary romance that I very much enjoyed!
