A one-day read for me. I really enjoyed the section from Lilian‘s POV. Jet‘s was okay. I didn‘t like Ryan‘s - but likely because I just didn‘t like him, even at the beginning. There‘s a lot of tough stuff in this book but it was beautifully written.

I finished this thinking, “that was so sweet.” This is an excellent debut, considering that the majority of the book deals with addiction, forgiveness, death, family, and recovery. It was wonderful.

We begin to say goodbye as soon as we say hello. Death is a corollary of birth, and to welcome life is to guarantee loss.

Up next…I‘ve heard nothing but rave reviews!

Sometimes generational family storylines can be these grand sweeping sagas that I hold off on awaiting the time and mindset. But this one was a quick read with fast pace. Inherited addiction is the antagonist here but the story is also full of hope and repeated forgiveness. I liked it.

This was an excellent debut. A beautifully written story of such pain, hope, and love. Addiction, loss, love. There are some parts that made me weep. But overall it was just a great debut novel.

This is the story of the Bright family.

This generational Texas family drama spans decades in their lives from three perspectives— Lillian, her daughter Georgette & ending with her husband Ryan. I sort of wish Ryan‘s perspective had been from someone else‘s though… his actions felt the least authentic to me & his section just wasn‘t as strong as the first two! But, the storyline certainly surprised me at times — but have the tissues on hand as there‘s a lot of heartbreak all around!

This was a fast read, but the trauma after trauma made me disconnect with the book.

I‘ve read a lot of books this year and this is one of the most beautiful books I‘ve read. That this is the author‘s debut makes me so happy about her future work.

I cried and I smiled throughout this whole book, and will forever hold these characters close to my heart.

If you enjoy complex family stories and different POVs, read this!
