STAY ON THE MOVE. STAY OUT OF SIGHT. In LA Times Book Prizewinner Stuart Nevilles daring foray into horror fiction, a mother takes desperate measures to protect her daughter in a sinister, blood-chilling highway pursuit across the Southwest. On a snowy December night, single mother Rebecca Carter drives her van into a snowbank to avoid hitting an elk on a desolate mountain highway. She is at the end of her rope, out of money and food. Still, she refuses help from a man in a pickup truckRebeccas adolescent daughter, Moonflower, is on the run from a grisly secret, and the last thing they can afford is to be remembered by anyone they meet. Meanwhile, Special Agent Marc Donner of the FBI has spent the better part of two years hunting down a gruesome serial killer who drains victims of blood before severing their spinal cords, leaving a trail of bodies throughout the country. As Agent Donners investigation brings him closer and closer to where Rebecca and Moonflower are hiding out, in the foothills of Colorado, the life that Rebecca has fought so hard to hold together for her daughter becomes increasingly imperiled. In this deadly, high-stakes game of cat and mouse, nobody is safe and nothing is certainnot even the line between predator and prey.

I needed a vampire book for one of the reading challenges and this one absolutely firs that prompt. It starts out as a thriller but halfway through the vampire part takes over. I did enjoy the first half better yet wasn‘t disappointed in the vampire parts, even though it‘s not my usual choice of books.

CatMS I'm a huge fan of Stuart Neville but not so much of vampire lit so may have to pass this up. I actually checked it out from the library with a stack of other books but had to return before I had the chance to read, did not know it was a vampire thriller. 1mo
BarbaraBB @CatMS This was my first but I‘ll keep an eye on him 1mo

Good horror! Rebecca is a single mom with an unusual daughter Monica, nicknamed Moonflower.

The story takes off when Rebecca & Moonflower are on the run cross country, off grid, in an old van.

FBI agent Marc Donner is obsessed & on the trail of a brutal serial killer.

Their paths cross in a horror kinda way!

The nurse - a great minor character!

There‘s a great spin & stuck the ending!

Good narration! A good October book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

In Neville‘s horror debut, multiple perspectives & a fast pace keep the pages turning! Rebecca Carter & her daughter, Monica (or Moonflower, as she more readily goes by), are on the run. Living off grid in their van, letters from the past trickles out their backstory while FBI agent Marc Donner leaves the cybercrime desk to track down a vigilante serial killer. Like many horror novels, I wanted a bit more explanation in parts but I loved the end!
