so-soI got this because there‘s a talking raccoon. Was a little disappointed that the raccoon was a smaller part than I wanted. Overall, it‘s an okay read. Could have definitely used several rereads and strong editing, but the story was fun once you get past the odd sentence structure and dialogue issues, but not gonna lie….it takes a lot.

I started this ARC back in October & never finished it & wanted to get it off of my massive NetGalley ARC TBR. Ir was okay. I liked the main characters but I felt like the story was too convoluted & needed shortening & better editing. It had some sparks of humor (Pod the raccoon familiar & the sentient kitchen appliance‘s) but I require more & more snark in my paranormal romances. This one was too angsty. 🤷🏻♀️

I found the communication issues very frustrating. This book had so much going on, and while I loved it, I wish I had gotten to learn more about the town, the side characters, and the magic of this world.
bailedI loved Charlotte Stein‘s When Grumpy Met Sunshine and forthcoming My Big Fat Fake Marriage, even though I‘m more of a fantasy reader, so I really didn‘t want to give up on this one but 30% in, I cannot forgive the love interest for the fatphobic high school prank he pulled on the heroine in the opening chapter and it‘s taking too long to get a reason to forgive him, for me. I think the book‘s tone is a mismatch for how I took the incident.
