The Painted Bridge
The Painted Bridge: A Novel | Wendy Wallace
4 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
Outside London behind a stone wall stands Lake House, a private asylum for genteel women of a delicate nature. In the winter of 1859, recently-married Anna Palmer becomes its newest arrival, tricked by her husband into leaving her home, incarcerated against her will and declared hysterical and unhinged. With no doubts as to her sanity, Anna is convinced that she will be released as soon as she can tell her story. But Anna quickly learns that liberty will not come easily. And the longer she remains at Lake House, the more she realises that - like the ethereal bridge over the asylum's lake - nothing is as it appears. She begins to experience strange visions and memories that may lead her to the truth about her past, herself, and to freedom - or lead her sofar into the recesses of her mind that she may never escape.

Mehso-so

I had a hard time deciding if this book was a So-So or a Pick. I loved the story concept but at the same time I struggled with keeping all the characters straight in the storyline. I wish the story was more focused. It was also slow in some parts.

I read this as part of #PosedByTheBook in Feb. I haven‘t got a #Bridge pic, so I will combine that with this months Pigeon !

I liked the idea of this book, a newly married woman is sent to a “retreat” against her will, as her husband believes she is hysterical (though he doesn‘t seem overly concerned). But in practice the characters fell flat and while the twist at the end regarding the MCs visions was interesting, it was still lacking for me!

I love pick your own goal readathons, as I don‘t always have the time to fit in X amount of hours around work and other obligations! So I am looking forward to #FabulousFebruary 🥰

My goals will be
•Finish 1984
•Finish Daughter of the Gods
•Make some progress with The Mountains Sing (audio)
•Start The Painted Bridge

#Readathon

Andrew65 Great goals. Good luck 😍 3y
