Dangerous magic. Fateful choices. Broken promises. The spellbinding series by New York Times bestselling author Brigid Kemmerer continues. The King's Courier Tycho has made a treacherous bargain. Now beholden to the magical scraver who saved King Gray's life, one false move could end everything. Jax escaped his life in Briarlock and traveled with Tycho to Emberfall. But life outside his small village brings unexpected challenges--and unlikely adversaries. After years of hating the royal family and their magic, Callyn never expected to be at the Queen's side, with magic on her fingertips. But at the royal court, she can't trust anyone--including the man she thought she loved. Cast apart, Tycho, Jax, and Callyn must learn to wield the magic that is dividing their kingdom. As the magical scravers attack from the north and the king's rivals gain strength, time is running out. War is looming. Love is tested. And magic could be the only answer. . .

Ok so there‘s more time spent here in book 2 just pining away instead of plotting but shhhhh their hands just touched. This installment saw relationships broken or mended (&sometimes broken again). I‘ll be impatiently waiting for book 3. More was revealed about the Truthbringers, the scravers & their motivations, less politics than expected with the king & queen at odds. But the action & character interactions were impeccable

5feet.of.fury Shoutout to @monalyisha for reminding me that interlibrary loans exist because this wasn‘t available on Libby & I spiraled into a pit of despair 😂 1d
monalyisha Ha! You‘re welcome. 1d

Next lot of finished books for my #holidayreading. Only another week left before school returns. Hope to finish a couple more. These were all good. All released between now and March. #readingandreviewing #summerbreak

Cbaldwinauthor I see you're interested in historical YA. My debut novel, HALF-TRUTHS, is coming out in April and I'm looking for ARC readers. “A 15-year-old Southern girl from a farm in Tabor City, North Carolina, aspires to be a journalist to shed light on the social issues of 1950. While pursuing that dream, she covers dark secrets about her family‘s past after moving in with her grandparents in upscale Charlotte.“ Want an E-ARC? Carol cbaldwin6@me.com.
