Hey folks, I‘ve posted over at the blog for the Aussies Rule Challenge and the Classic by an Aboriginal Author prompt.you can find it bit.ly/Aussierule7

@Lauredhel I think this one was for you?

#aussiesrule2018

Lauredhel Thanks - good post. I'm thinking of counting Songlines under this prompt. It's a book explaining/interpreting the Seven Sisters art exhibition. A number of Aboriginal people were heavily involved (in the book as well as, obviously, the exhibition), and I think it may be more true to the way these classic stories were told than "classics" published by the colonialist publishing industry. CarolynM @Lauredhel That was such a fabulous exhibition! Did you see it? I found it so hard to get my western head around it at first, but then it just sprang to life with all the possibilities of the stories and where they came from. A wonderful experience. 6y
Lauredhel @CarolynM no, I'm in WA and I don't think it came here. I always enjoy and am challenged by the Aboriginal art in our gallery, though. 6y
CarolynM @Lauredhel I'm sorry you haven't seen it. We were lucky enough to be visiting a friend in Canberra while it was on at the National Museum. I'm not sure if it has been shown anywhere else, but it really should travel throughout the country. The women who are custodians of the stories made it very clear that they wanted to share them with all of us. I found that aspect of it very moving. 6y

Pickpick

I know MLK used the term 'citizens of colour' but I haven't seen #POC used in Australia by groups whose voices have been marginalised. I have noticed a dearth of reviews of books written by Indigenous Australians so I'll start there. Langford grew up in the Stolen Generation era, 30 years before Indigenous Australians were granted citizenship (until 1967 they were classified as flora and fauna). The ... (review continued below)

EnidBiteEm ...poverty and loneliness Langford describes is heart-breaking. The unflappability of her tone makes it more so. #septphotochallenge #somethingforseptember #catchup 8y
RealLifeReading I think POC tends to be used more in the US? I really don't know! But thank you for highlighting this book, and indigenous Australian writers! 8y
EnidBiteEm @RealLifeReading and Canada too, I've noticed 😀 I will try to add a few more .. 8y
