A Dark Corner
A Dark Corner | Celia Dale
3 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
A Dark Corner is a chilling depiction of domestic horror. First published in 1971 it tells the story of Errol, a young man who finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. In a North-West London suburb on a wet evening Errol mistakenly rings the doorbell of the house of Nelly and Arthur Didcot. Wet-through and coughing he asks about a room. Despite arriving at the wrong house Nelly invites him in to stay just for one night. Behind the veneer of middle-class respectability however a dreadful truth is about to be revealed in a horrifying and murderous climax. 'Celia Dale is past mistress of the bizarre truth behind normal faades.' New Statesman 'She is bitingly spot-on with her dialogue which catches an undertow of hope, desire and revulsion.' The Times 'Celia Dale has created an established corner in tales of domestic terror and Arthur Didcot in A Dark Corner is a totally fiendish fiend.' Daily Telegraph

Thankyou Leah. Celia Dale knows how to tell a suspenseful dark tale. This seemed darker to me than the others we‘ve read ( or maybe it‘s just me ). I loved all the details of 1970‘s life in this London house and three well designed characters. I really enjoyed this. 👌🏻❤️🖤

andrew61 Sounds good Cathy. I have a copy of sheep's clothing in my tbr but I like the sound of something even darker which after reading a helping hard struggle to imagine. 4d

Just settling in with this one. Perfection…
It‘s an overcast rainy evening and a stranger has knocked on the door, the lady has taken pity on him and let him in … she‘s making tea … suspense from the first page! I love it. @LeahBergen

LeahBergen Oh no … don‘t let him in! Or do, maybe. 😆😆 6d
