The Paris Apartment meets Only Murders in the Building in this debut murder mystery with an intriguing cast of characters inhabiting a quirky block of flats in modern-day London. When a minor criminal is murdered in the smallest residential square in London, elderly heiress and landlady Celeste van Duren recruits two of her tenants to investigate. Her cleaner, Audrey, knows everyone and is liked by all, while failed writer Lewis is known by no one. He hates his job, hates his life, and hes not that fond of Audrey eitherbut Celeste is persuasive. As they hunt for clues in and around the Square, they discover everyone has something to hide, including their fellow residents. Audrey and Lewis must find a way to work together if theyre to find the killer in their midst. Assuming of course, theres just the one . . . Cozy crime enthusiasts will not be able to get enough of Marchfield Square and its residents.

Themes: Murder Mystery, “Only Murders in the Building” vibe, Fans of Anthony Horowitz‘s writing

Wow. Wow. WOW! I cannot believe this is a debut work - it is so well done!! I loved all of the characters, and loved seeing them grow and develop. This is the perfect fall read for mystery fans! I already pre-ordered Whyte‘s next book (coming out in May 2026).

Celeste, the landlady of Marchfield Square has created a haven for a carefully curated group of. residents. She and her manservant, Dixon, look after their welfare. Richard Gleason, a brute who abuses his wife, slipped under her radar, and now he‘s dead. Two residents are tasked to investigate. The big reveal at the end was not a surprise, but this debut is intriguing. I look forward to her sophomore novel.

He put the phone down and tapped his fingers on the desk. The alibi thing was annoying when the video call would so easily prove his whereabouts, but the police clearly hadn't even bothered to check it with his nana yet. A single person, living alone, not going to stupid neighbour fireworks things, and suddenly you were a murder suspect.
