This is a love story set in the midst of an in-progess global apocalypse. It's filled with lust, miscommunication, and attempts by one party to anticipate the desires of the other (and missing the mark, as so often happens). I'm not sure I *like* this novel, but I love Xe Sands's narration and the story definitely touches on some interesting ideas about love, connection, and mortality.

4/5

Kinsey, the leader of an isolated research team in the desert, find a specimen and bring it inside before a deadly sandstorm hits. They are quickly infected by the virus it carried, and Kinsey's sexual desires get mixed up with the horror the virus unleashes on her team.

This is such a creepy and strange book, I almost don't know how to rate it, but I also couldn't put it down.

Gailey goes full horror in their latest, wherein a small, isolated research group brings an unusual specimen into their facility. Then they start to get sick. The creeping dread is so well done, but the main character has a sexual predilection that was too weird for me.

Prairiegirl_reading The title alone is a huge red flag for me! 🤣 3mo
Eggbeater Oh, well, now I have to read it. 🤣 3mo

My #bookspin / #hauntedshelf list for October. The last six are super short Amazon originals, so hopefully, I'll make it through most of the list.

I really enjoyed Gailey‘s JUST LIKE HOME, so I was excited to dive into this one on audio. It‘s a great performance but, unfortunately, this was just too sexually strange for me. Kinsey‘s unnatural fetish overwhelms the plot (which moves along quickly) & while sometimes body horror can be fun, this just isn‘t the fun or chilling listen that I wanted. I was curious to see how it would end, so I finished it but without the narrator, I wouldn‘t have!

A psycho sexual thriller like only Sarah Gailey could write. At an isolated habitat running experiments in the desert, a sample brought into the lab unleashes a contagion, one that seems dead set on finding out exactly what makes lead researcher Dr. Kinsey tick. A creepy sexual fever dream.

JamieArc How can I not be curious about this? 4mo
Jess I went to B&N today to get this and they said it doesn‘t come out until the 23rd. 😞 happy to hear you liked it though! 4mo
