A Particularly Nasty Case
A Particularly Nasty Case: A Novel | Adam Kay
3 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
A chaotic young doctor might be the only one who can catch a killer seemingly targeting hospital officialsif his investigation doesnt cost him his career firstin this deathly funny and brilliantly original debut mystery from Adam Kay, former doctor and BAFTA-winning author of the international bestseller and AMC+ hit show This is Going to Hurt. When his toxic medical director dies of a heart attack, fellow doctor Eitan Rose smells foul play. Nobody else does, though, including some quite crucial players like the police and the medical examiner. So when another senior doctor dies, Eitan vows to uncover the truth himself. But having recently returned to work after time off for his mental health, Eitan's personal file is far from spotless. Despite his budding relationship with Cole, a handsome hospital porter, and reluctant comradery with his office mate, Margaret-with-the-cats, Eitan is quickly in over his head. And as his investigation spirals into pandemonium, his colleagues begin to question his judgement. Could a killer really be roaming the halls? Or is Eitan making a catastrophic mistake? This clever and fiendishly funny debut is filled with unforgettable wit, lovable characters, and plenty of twistsalongside texts, transcripts, medical reports, and all the evidence youll need to help solve this particularly nasty case.

I liked the rather unlikeable MC. Some of the shenanigans were over the top, so was some of the humour, and it was predictable, BUT I wanted to know how it played out.

It‘s that time again. Here‘s my #10BeforeTheEnd list. Perhaps more aptly named 10 lies, but I‘ll try 😆 I‘ve started about half of these.

ChasingOm I just tore through So Thirsty in an evening! 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures I really enjoyed Cursed Bread, inspired by a true story in France which I totally fell down a rabbit hole about! Good luck 🤞 started already means you are already part of the way there! 2mo
MatchlessMarie @ChasingOm I‘m planning on reading it in November since that‘s my birthday month and it‘s my understanding there are birthday shenanigans in this one 😄 2mo

MatchlessMarie @ChaoticMissAdventures Awesome! I actually hadn‘t heard anything about this one. It was one of those called-to-me-while-library-browsing-books 😁 2mo

ChaoticMissAdventures @MatchlessMarie I have heard it called a Marmite (love it or hate it) it is a bit odd but I think knowing the history of where the story came from helps! 2mo

This is the rare case of a non-fiction writer producing quality fiction that doesn‘t just feel like a roman a clef. A Particularly Nasty Case is rollicking good fun, sharp and funny. Your heart will be in your mouth, and your guts will fall to the floor as the unstable genius desperately tries to convince everyone around him that a wily murderer is on the loose.
