Long Way Gone
Long Way Gone | Charles Martin
No matter where you go, no matter whether you succeed or fail, stand or fall, no gone is too far gone. You can always come home. At the age of eighteen, musician and songwriter Cooper O Connor took everything his father held dear and drove 1,200 miles from home to Nashville, his life riding on a six-string guitar and the bold wager that he had talent. But his wager soon proved foolish. Five years after losing everything, he falls in love with Daley Cross, an angelic voice in need of a song. But just as he realizes his love for Daley, Cooper faces a tragedy that threatens his life as well as his career. With nowhere else to go, he returns home to the remote Colorado mountains, searching for answers about his father and his faith. When Daley shows up on his street corner twenty years later, he wonders if it s too late to tell her the truth about his past and if he is ready to face it himself. A radical retelling of the prodigal son story, Long Way Gone takes us from tent revivals to the Ryman Auditorium to the tender relationship between a broken man and the father who never stopped calling him home."

I enjoyed listening to this book on my way back and forth to work. It‘s a good reminder that no matter how far gone we think we, or someone we love may be, there is always hope!

What a breath of fresh air! This unique retelling of the prodigal son is a captivating story of Cooper O‘Connor‘s life journey. The story begins in present day when Daley Cross, a blast from Cooper‘s past, appears on the scene. From reading so many thrillers and depressing settings and circumstances for books, this one cleansed my palate. Charles Martin is a simple but eloquent writer.

5 ⭐️. Long Way Gone is first and foremost a story about love and forgiveness. Charles Martin‘s writing is as lyrical as the music that Cooper O'Connor writes in his little black notebook. Long Way Gone captivates you from page one with a multifaceted heartwarming story intricately woven into a beautiful tapestry. Another book I would not have chosen for myself. I'm sorry but humans just do not act this way. I'm all about stories of redemption and overcoming adversity but I also like a spot of realism.

Such a radiant story, it's hard to put into words. The author does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life, enriching the story with both their trumps and their struggles, and the ending, oh my goodness. I finished it on lunch break and had to clock in all red eyed and snotty. Fabulous read!
