Pickpick

You could probably spend the rest of your life reading nothing but books about the First World War, but if you can only choose one you could certainly do worse than this. A chronological, narrative-driven account of the events directly preceding and during WWI, it manages to be an entertaining read without skimping on the research. Chapters are broken up by "Background" asides providing additional context regarding the major names and places.

On our weekly "books over coffee morning" with hubby at Panera, we split a pain au chocolat. And yes, I'm still trying to plow through this big boy?

Zelma That pastry looks delectable! 8y
MrBook My kind of book. And that's the only pastry I get from Panera because that's the only one I want 😆. 7y

#readingsnacks I try not to snack while I read, because once I start, I don't stop. Usually I have a glass of ice tea or water by my chair. But when I do break down, it's almost always chocolate. What can I say?😌 #booktober

Bookzombie Chocolate! 🍫 8y
Zelma And those minis are addictive. I can't buy Hershey Nuggets or we binge on them until they're gone. 8y
Lynnsoprano @Zelma I know. I call them my kryptonite. 8y

#booktober #somethingborrowed. Usually @Ambrosnazzy or her brother are borrowing our books, but in this case, my current read is borrowed from our son's library. Hopefully now that the storm has passed, I can concentrate on reading again.

Lynnsoprano @katedfisher @celtichik thanks! I wanted something that said "fall," even though it's still in the 90's here in South Florida. 8y

My husband has been raving about this book, so when he finished it the other day, I picked it up. World War I is not a history topic that has held a lot of interest for me, but this is so well written that it is keeping my interest. And I've learned a lot in just a few chapters.
