pickA perfect read to start the New Year; I love Patrick Gale. Here the writing is incredibly gentle and I loved how the chapters dipped in and out of the characters lives at different ages whilst keeping the overarching narrative, it worked perfectly. I was gripped and had the time to read in huge chunks, completely absorbed. It‘s about faith, morality, family and love. It‘s quiet, sad, moving and also uplifting. I absolutely loved it.
pickI‘d forgotten how much I enjoy his books. I‘m becoming a fan. He has included references to Perth and Margret River so I‘m guessing he has been here at a book festival?? Perhaps that‘s how the last book I found got signed.
This is a delightful story told cleverly using chapters for each character but going back and forth in time and weaving an enchanting story.

Really great story which seemed to have finished before it started but then the back story is told through different narrators and from different years. Plus a character from another of his novels is cleverly brought in.
Being a newcomer to Gale, and falling for his writing, I was so stoked to find this in a charity shop ☺☺☺
