The Problem Child
The Problem Child: The Sisters Grimm, Book Three | Buckley, Michael
In book three of the series, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm tackle their most important mystery: Who kidnapped their parents more than a year ago? Sabrina enters the hideout of the Scarlet Hand, the sinister group of Everafters who are keeping her parents prisoner. She has a chance to rescue her mom and dad but is foiled by the most famous fairy-tale character in the world. With the help of her little sister (who might be tougher than Sabrina realizes) and a long-lost relative, Sabrina finds a powerful weapon for fighting her enemies, and discovers that magic has a high price.

Mehso-so

I found this installment problematic (see previous post about boys being mean to girls) for several reasons. Sabrina develops a magical addiction, an unknown uncle appears, psycho Red Riding Hood and her slavering pet Jabberwocky terrorize the town...meh.

Second finish of #AnyWayYouReadathon done and progress made for #BookSpinBingo

kimmypete1 Hope your next read is better! 4y

This scene made me put down the book and have a whole talk with kiddo about consent, “boys will be boys” bullshit, and it never being ok to buy into the “he‘s being mean because he likes you” toxic mindset. I‘ve seen it coming (it‘s a reread but she was too young to remember) and this was the boiling point. Let‘s stop normalizing abuse and bullying, ok? And hold everyone (boys/girls/adults) accountable for their behavior.

Context below:

ravenlee Puck, aka Robin Goodfellow/the Trickster King, is a perpetual 11-year-old who enjoys scatalogical humor and harmful pranks. So far he has dunked Sabrina in a vat of buttermilk and glue, drawn on her face with permanent market, released a tarantula in her bed, harassed her at school (and encouraged a widespread bullying campaign!), and more. He‘s come to the rescue occasionally, but he‘s also just awful. But it‘s ok - because he just likes her! 😡 4y
