“What counted was possibility. You could live on possibility, at least for awhile.”

A great book that depicts problems from another time period that still influence thoughts that some people still hold today. It shows her potential & resilience & determination even though she is meant to be nothing more than a wealthy matron!

The Curious World of Calpurina Tate by Jacqueline Kelly (historical fiction, published 2015) is a part of a series following Callie through her adventures in the 1900s. This book shows the issues of sexism and societal norms held before, but also the immense possibility that is held by young girls! It proves that these standards are ridiculous and that young girls are just as capable as boys, and the different family dynamics at that time.

“spraying bit of messy worm about” I think this might gross some kids out and turn them off of the book

blurb

I don‘t think this would be a good option for children because some of the science goes a bit too in depth and might be too much for kids to read and listen to

This is a historical fiction book about a girl and her love for science. I liked this book but it might not be good for children. This was a chapter book that I read the whole book, so i counted it as 5 books

Currently reading this middle grade book and #allisnotlost when we have books like this that encourage young girls to speak out about what is fair and to pursue the study of science.

RanaElizabeth @JustTrish Thanks for that reminder. Bad form on my part to make gender assumptions about reading. 8y

JustTrish @RanaElizabeth Well not all boys like to read " girl books" but my son always has. Started with Junie. B. Jones and went from there ? 8y
