What a much needed story for middle schoolers!
Loved it! These two characters are so likable and very real. #huggable #2019mglgbtq #2019mgnovelinverse #2019mgownvoices

I did hope for more of Levi‘s character ... then this morning it clicked! I already know Levi 🤦🏻‍♀️

Next up. I finished my other book at lunch today and since I couldn‘t decide what should be next, I let my daughter pick from the books in my library bag 😊
She told me she read the last page because ... “I had to know, Mom.” 🙃#2019mgnovelinverse

Such a great story! Katharen has just moved from Alabama — where she had many friends and told so many stories her friends called her Keet-Keet Parakeet — to Illinois. In her new school, she doesn‘t fit in. No more stories because the kids make fun of her accent.

Grandpa is in IL and takes Keet fishing. He helps her learn how to get her stories back.

Add one new friend, an awesome librarian, and poems...

I‘ve read this to my daughter every year for the past six years, since she was four — this was also the first book I ever read aloud to her (right after she was born).

I offered to read a different novel-in-verse this year for poetry month, but she said “no, this book is too special.” 😊❤️

Fun, quick middle grade read.

From the title, I expected something super humorous. I wasn‘t disappointed, but Eleanor is sad about her babysitter moving away and is not happy about the changes.

Eleanor‘s voice is quite charming.

It‘s hard sometimes to say “This was such a great book” when the subject matter is so hard.
Mariko did a great job here. Her writing made me feel like I was there with Mina.
There are not enough books for kids that cover this time in our history.

So much to love here. Jack is a year older in this sequel to Love That Dog. His teacher moved up and is still sharing poetry.

I love the mention of literary devices
I love that mom is Deaf
I love the slow acceptance of the cat
I love the poems by Jack

Sorry I waited so long to read this.

Why have I avoided this one for so long?
I loved watching Jack‘s confidence with poetry grow
I loved his responses to the poetry his teacher shared
I loved the inclusion of those poems at the end
