Only got to two Edith Wharton books during April‘s #AuthoraMonth Where did April go! Not necessarily an author that speaks to me but did enjoy Ethan Frome.

Another upper class New York novel, with characters falling in love with someone who society deems unacceptable.

A 29 year old orphaned woman is taken in by relatives, and suffers from pride and upperclass social mores...and a gambling addiction! As usual, Wharton‘s main character falls in love with the wrong man. After reading five of her books in a row, they start to blur together. Still, there‘s something comforting about them.

This short story about a dignified ladies‘ book club was very funny as it mocked their prudishness. I definitely need to read some more Edith Wharton, but just didn‘t get a chance to do more this month. #AuthoraMonth #AAMEW (1)

These are the two Edith Wharton novels I‘ve read this month #AAMEW. Of these two, I liked Summer more (already reviewed). With “Glimpses”, society is skewered again; the upper/richer classes and those who aspire to move up. It‘s full of the slang, i.e. “old sport” , of the 1920s (intentionally?) which got a bit tiresome.

Found inside “Glimpses” was a now-defunct bookstore bookmark from when we lived in Ann Arbor.

I really enjoyed this bleak story. Wharton‘s writing makes you keep turning the pages, even though you think you know what the end will be. #authoramonth #AAMEW
