Edith Wharton (/?i?d?? ?hw?rt?n/; born Edith Newbold Jones; January 24, 1862 August 11, 1937) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist, short story writer, and designer. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1927, 1928 and 1930.[1] Wharton combined her insider's view of America's privileged classes with a brilliant, natural wit to write humorous, incisive novels and short stories of social and psychological insight. She was well acquainted with many of her era's other literary and public figures, including Theodore Roosevelt (font: Wikipedia)

This story is hilarious and fun to read. Centres around a group of (pretentious) ladies from the ‘Lunch Club‘, a book club meeting. Read it!

I wanted to read this on #SerialReader @SerialReader but the app is glitching too much, so I read it on the Kindle app instead. 😢 Read this short story in bed with a stomach bug and loved it. It pokes fun at a pretentious book club of society women and just cracked me up, perfect distraction from being sick! Love Edith Wharton. 😂❤️ Book 4/4 for #BFCr4 so I guess I'm upping my goal to 6 books! #BFC is helping me read more, as is being sick. 👍

What a delightfully snarky story! A clever piece of social commentary about a snotty bunch of women in an exclusive book club in the early 1900s. Only a 27 page story, but I highlighted the heck out of it, including an opening line:

‘To this end, she had founded the Lunch Club, an association composed of herself and several other indomitable huntresses of erudition.‘

I‘m SO using that in my bio.😂

Mrs. Roby is savage, and I ❤️ her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#LitsyAtoZ Using this for X, even though it's super short. I'm counting it! ? It was actually really entertaining. The pretentious members of The Lunch Club are embarrassed when their guest speaker, an author, refuses to talk about her books and they have no other topic planned. One member brings up "Xingu" and the rest gush about it and how it changed their lives, even though they don't have the first clue what it even is. So hilarious. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

#readingchallenge question! I'm having a little hip surgery and anticipate having some extra reading hours in January and February. I was thinking of doing 3 (yes, three) reading challenges. Do you, or do you not count one book for multiple challenges? I've seen it suggested then was told by my coworkers (who don't do things like this) that it would be cheating. What say ye, littens?! #litsyatoz #readharder #litsyreadingchallenge

TheLibrarian I don't think it would be cheating! If it is then I've cheated before. 3y
