Ultraman | Tomohiro Shimoguchi, Eiichi Shimizu

Mehso-so

Ultraman, the defender of Tokyo, has been missing for decades. Teenager Shinjiro soon discovers that his father is the one who merged with ‘the being of light‘ to become Ultraman, when a new threat arises after many years of peace. He also learns that his penchant for never getting hurt is due to his parentage. Will he inherit the mantle of Earth's savior? Decent, but just the start of a more interesting story, I hope.

I was eager to get the next volumes, but I haven't been reading a lot in the last couple of days. I think I overdid it on reading challenges -- so it was nice to feel a bit more like tucking into this, and get a chance to read it. I have volume 4 ready as well, which is nice.

I'm veeery curious about the System in this one and if indeed it does want to use Jinwoo for something. Each progressive volume feels a bit darker...

I'm really loving this series! It's such a good take on vampires and doesn't shy away from morality, ethics, or how dangerous the vampires (or devils here) can be. No fluffy easily controlled creatures here.

ShelleyBooksie Is this a graphic novel? 2w
CoveredInRust @ShelleyBooksie Yes! Specifically a manga :) 13 volumes long. 2w

Recent home library acquisition:

📖 Requiem of the Rose King vol. 1 by Aya Kanno

I've never read manga but I found this retelling of the Wars of the Roses in a little free library and had to grab it.

This was my top book for May and I should probably review it. Sandstorm is the first book in the Sigma Force series. It‘s what you would get if you threw elements of The Mummy, Indiana Jones, and King Solomon‘s Mines in a blender along with a secret military group and set it after 9/11. I found I didn‘t want to put it down, and listened to some of it on audio even though I didn‘t love the narrator. It was a great vacation read.

Finished 5/31/25

WorldsOkayestStepMom I've loved all of the Sigma Force series that I've read! 3w
Bookzombie @WorldsOkayestStepMom I almost started the next book right away, but decided to pace myself. lol. 3w
