At Lesbian Book Club last night, one person confessed that she didn't try to make sense of the images and only read the text. Another person only looked at the pictures. That made for an interesting discussion of this graphic memoir! (Image above is a fairly typical page spread.)

Bibliogeekery @BookishFeminist - oh gotcha, I misunderstood your previous post. The books that didn't fly well were You Set Me On Fire - Mariko Tamaki, mixed reviews for All Inclusive - Farzana Doctor and also mixed for Salt Fish Girl - Larissa Lai. It feels like we just need one that enough folks are excited about. Also, we often read books by local queer authors some of whom we kinda know and that ups the stakes a bit too much I think. 8y
BookishFeminist @Bibliogeekery Those books all sound interesting! I love Mariko Tamaki's work so I'm definitely going to check that out. It's a shame things haven't been floating so well! Book clubs can be hard that way sometimes. The feminist book club I'm in is sometimes a bit close-minded or sheltered so I'm often pointing out problematic stuff with which they don't agree. Sigh. I hope you guys like Udala Trees better! Excited to hear your thoughts on it. 😊 8y
Bibliogeekery @BookishFeminist I actually enjoyed them all. It seems like it can be hard to strike the right note with book clubs. Sounds like your feminist one is a bit tricky that way too. It's one of the *many* things I like about Litsy - so many great book folks in one space! 8y
BookishFeminist @Bibliogeekery Couldn't agree more! I love my ladies but I'm not here for justifying racism, etc. because it was "unintentional." Makes it tricky to navigate book clubs with theme, especially I think. Yours sounds tricky too! Litsy is wonderful because when I find a problem now I can post/vent about it here to empathetic ears and it makes it better. ? Glad you're able to enjoy the books regardless of what the group thinks! 8y

Lindy @Bibliogeekery The commitment of the leader, Kim, is the reason. She keeps a big email contact list. Membership changes over time, always open to new people. Sometimes 2 or 3 people show up, sometimes 7 or 8. Women attend when they can. Kim is the constant. 8y
