Reading Challenge | Lesley Yates
post image

🙌 My library hosted a fun reading challenge in 2023! I didn‘t get a blackout but I filled 2 complete rows.
✅ I used one copy for tracking prompts completed, and another for photos of the books I read for the prompts. I loved using my book stamps and washi tape for this challenge.

I‘m almost done settling up my book journal for the year. This page is dedicated to #SeriesLove2024.
I‘ve finished 2 books so far this year that completed 2 series.

I stamped an orange book for the last book in the series. When I finish a series I color in the rest of the line with a brush marker.

Thank you @Andrew65 and @TheSpineView for hosting again this year.
Thank you @Catsandbooks for keeping #litsycrafters going.

Catsandbooks This is fantastic! I'm still setting up my journal too lol. ❤️ 3mo
TheSpineView You're welcome! I'm trying out a book journal for this year for the first time. I like how you care tracking your series. ❤️📖📚 3mo
Andrew65 Love your system, best of luck with the reads this year. 😁 3mo

ElizaMarie I love this layout! Thats awesome! 3mo
Catsandbooks @PaperbackPirate Thanks! And I'm not sure yet if I'll share it. It's not a book journal, just my regular one. Basically a calendar/scrapbook with memories and such. But I am making a spreadsheet for my book series this year so I'll share that at least. 3mo

I had just plowed through “The Hobbit,” but I had no money for a book, so I had to start negotiating. My mother and I agreed that I would read a book of her choosing and then I would get my mass market paperback with an alarmed Elijah Wood on the cover. I just had to read… “Pride and Prejudice.”

I was reminiscing after playing catch-up for #lotrchapteraday #bookjournal

JazzFeathers Well, you don't seem to have come out too bad from the bergaing. Also, lovely picture 🤩 6mo
wisherwishinguponastar @JazzFeathers Thank you! I was working on Litsy Love letters and everything just fell in to place. I actually didn‘t enjoy Pride and Prejudice the first time around. It wasn‘t until I was older that I liked it, but I will always remember that experience. 6mo

Hearing Saruman tell me about the Second Age antics of men is the best way to enjoy this story. If you have audible, Christopher Lee narrated the audiobook available. Tolkien created an epic tragedy for his world that sits nicely beside the epic romance (looking at you Beren and Lúthien). #tolkien #audiobook #bookjournal

Book 1 Chapter 2 “The Shadow of the Past”
#LotRChapteraDay #bookjournal

I have been listening to some Tolkien-focused podcasts and is it just me or is the worst fate for anything in Middle-earth to “fade.” Elves that don‘t return to Valinor: fade. Bilbo and Gollum spending too much quality time with the ring: fade.

Roary47 Today a coworker slightly mentioned Lord of the Rings and I went into total nerd mode. He was impressed. Lol 🙈😅 7mo
wisherwishinguponastar @Roary47 I get excited when I meet someone with a common interest like that. Then you have to play it cool until you know how into it they are. 7mo
JazzFeathers @wisherwishinguponastar @Roary47 😂 Fortunately, almost everyone l know knows I'm a Tolkien fan. I do try not to get away with it when anybody mention something vaginally connected with Tolkien 😅 But then, it's good to be a nerd, don't you think? 6mo

JazzFeathers @wisherwishinguponastar I think you are right. Though I think fadind is more sad than bad in Tolkien's stories. Something that is ultimately not avoidable. And yet, closely connected with changing, which is not bad, though it's certainly hard. 6mo
wisherwishinguponastar @JazzFeathers yeah. Rereading Boromir‘s death allows you to see how our characters deal with sorrow. You sing a song and tell a tale of your fallen comrade so he may live on. 6mo

I am going to try to play catch-up with #LotRChapteraDay because seeing all the posts have pulled me back in to Middle Earth.

This may not be the Tolkien book for everyone. I struggled to get through a few chapters, but some of the less detailed stories in “The Silmarillion” get their time to shine. Plus there is more information on Galadriel and Gandalf if that is of interest to you. It also gives some behind the scenes pieces to “The Hobbit” that I really enjoyed. #bookjournal #tolkien

CoverToCoverGirl I love this. How did you create it? I can‘t draw a straight line.. 11mo
GinaKButler @CoverToCoverGirl The pages are a dot grid. I sketch it out with pencil and a ruler and then go over it with pen. Thank you! My goal is to *actually* stick with my reading journal all year long. So far, so good! 11mo
Amiable Is there a method to the pattern of how you color it in? I know that each color is for a month, but are you aiming for a rainbow-type look at the end? Instead of coloring the books in the order that you read them? Just intrigued by your process! 11mo
Amiable And also —what if you read more books than you‘ve plotted out? Or does this chart represent specific books that you‘ve planned for this year and not every book you will read? (So many questions—sorry! I used to be a newspaper reporter. 😬) 11mo
GinaKButler @Amiable There is no rhyme or reason…I just want a colorful bookshelf when it‘s full. 11mo
GinaKButler @Amiable I plotted out 95 books. I read 90 last year, so I *should* be ok, but I can always draw a line down some of the chunky ones to add a few. I usually don‘t use pen on it for titles until I‘m sure I‘ll finish. The ones you see are either in progress or one of my #chunksterchallenge2023 picks. I‘ve added TBRs in past years and then never got to them. My goal is really just to keep up with this… 11mo
Amiable Thanks for explaining your thought process! I love the way it looks. It‘s going to be so pretty when the year is over. 11mo

I caught up on my #litsylove (so if we correspond, it is on the way)!!! I also decided to make a list for #bookspin this month. I forgot how much fun it is to make a list and wait for @TheAromaofBooks to pull numbers! #bookjournal

TheAromaofBooks Oh I LOVE your layout!! 12mo
wisherwishinguponastar @TheAromaofBooks thank you! I love making them for your challenge! It gives me a lot of joy to go through and pick a theme. 12mo

I really wish there was a way to share multiple photos in one post. I feel pretty good about my book journal this year. It looks a lot better than the last two years because I decided to reformat several of my tables. Instead of making them year-long, I made them monthly and am combining everything instead of making bar graphs. #BookJournal #Craft #BulletJournal

mandarchy Do you print the images or cut them out of a catalog? 14mo
Kenyazero @mandarchy I print them out. I measured the space I needed and it was a 1.5x2 inch space, so I just shrink them down to that and print a full page at once. Fortunately, I used Adobe Illustrator to make this easier, but I think I could have done it in Microsoft Office/Word too 🤔 14mo
coffees I told myself I'd do a reading log journal this year but it's been a bust so far 😂 tho I've not really read much either, also agree on the multiple photos 14mo
Kenyazero @coffees Sounds like it's not too late to catch up, then! 😮 14mo
