Set in 1704, partially in Wales and partially around the Battle of Blenheim in Bavaria, this is the story of a dairymaid who is tasked with caring for a viscount who has contracted smallpox (she is immune as she‘s had a mild case of cowpox). She faces class issues, unwanted advances and losing her heart, and she ends up traveling with a doctor as his nurse following the military. ⬇️⬇️
Currently reading this historical fiction which has a rather gothic feel to it so far.

pickI was pleasantly surprised by this debut historical mystery set in 1759 London. While I did guess ”who dun it”, the plot line was more imaginative and complicated than I originally thought. However it was the harlot with the ❤️ of gold and eye for detail that stole the show and really shone here. I really hope that I haven‘t heard the last of Lizzie and her adventures with the Bow Street Runners. 4/5⭐️

He helps investigate a potential serial killer when bodies start being found. An inquest is reopened in to an old case but Alice‘s body is missing. Was James Dalbey, the Beast of Manchester innocent after all ? A great thriller with some fantastic writing #canelo #netgalley
The characters are well drawn, and the mains (Elen and especially Mordiford) are shown to mature and come into their own as the story moves along. My only con is that it does seem to wrap up a little too swiftly. 4/5⭐️ #NetGalley #Canelo 4y
