During my return to Oregon, I was gifted some incredible familial history:

My dad‘s mom gave me my Step-Papas Osaka 1946 Air Force album, WW1 memorabilia and a ton of school books from the turn of the century.

Mom‘s side: We found genealogy of my mom‘s dad dating to 1500s! and an entire cigar box of letters from 1890-1945. I mean probably 100 letters about my family. Project about them is forthcoming! I am so excited!! #familyhistory

Pickpick

I rarely reread books, but I picked this one off my shelf a few weeks ago and am so glad I did. Published in 1990, his observations are still so relevant. The California heartland, the Central Valley, is so different from the coastal cities and communities. It‘s not a place I‘ve ever lived, but I feel like Haslam reflects upon his community with such wisdom and insight that I understand it better.

#riotgrams (pt.1) #setwhereyoulive I want to do two posts on today's riotgrams because I feel like #CentralValley writers get no love. #California Central Valley is often cited as illiterate or uneducated. But the writers here are incredible and hardworking and tell the truest stories I know. Breathing In Dust is an example and Tim Z Hernandez is a Central Valley writing legend.
