The Day the Books Disappeared | Joanna Ho, Caroline Kusin Pritchard

Pickpick

Powerful story about a boy obsessed with airplanes who can‘t understand why his friends would read anything else. It also celebrates our diversity, interconnectedness & freedom to read what we want. I bought this book after hearing that the authors who were set to speak at a CA elementary class were asked not to talk about book bans or specific books being banned.😡Let‘s keep supporting these authors & fighting book censorship in our backyards.

MemoirsForMe I‘m proud to say this is my 100th book read this year. I‘m glad it‘s a book that‘s stirring more conversations about book censorship and book banning. Our voices will be heard! 💙✊🏻📚💙 1w

The Day You Begin | Jacqueline Woodson

I feel rather shamed by all of the Threads posts about how we “should” be reading banned books by living, marginalized authors, instead of the “classics”. I‘ve ditched my original list for books by Black and Palestinian authors actively being banned/challenged. I‘ve only got bandwidth for picture books, but this was a great one about belonging and finding a place in the world. The illustrations are beautiful.

PatriciaU I am sorry you‘re feeling shamed about your reading choices. No one should be made to feel that way. This is why I left Threads and avoid booktok and bookstagram. So much unnecessary judgement. (edited) 1mo
DGRachel @PatriciaU No one said anything directly to me, so it‘s all internal and honestly, I do try to purchase and read books from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ authors, but my shelves still skew white. I do agree that there‘s a ton of judgement and gatekeeping, especially on Threads. 1mo
PatriciaU @DGRachel Jacqueline Woodson is an excellent choice. Her Brown Girl Dreaming is a favorite. 1mo
