This was a struggle. Interesting idea, great premise, but it's a looooong and very odd book with a lot of massive plot holes...
For a middle grade book, this story had a surprising amount of darkness and cruelty.

Truly sad and devastating historical family saga about four generations of a Korean family in Japan. The book is fine. I learned new things about the dynamic between Koreans & Japanese, their culture, cuisine, language.

Nute I think that it has been adapted into a television miniseries. 2d
cheesemoi I agree that the book was just okay :) I heard that the TV series will rearrange the order of some of the events. I‘d be curious to see the differences 2d
CaroPi I will read the book and then watch the series. Is already in Apple TV 2d

It annoyed me that heroine couldn't sit down and talk things through, but the book is cute and entertaining, although I expected it to be more humorous 😁
And great news! Book #4 Well Traveled is expected this year!!!

So many ugly secrets! So many liars. Twisty plot, dysfunctional characters, slowly building tension, short and effective chapters - very entertaining!

This book covers a lot: love, lost, grief, separation, family secrets, but the story is very slow, a little cliché and unconvincing. It's an OK book, but just OK.

I just love K. M. McManus books!
This one is also well written YA high school drama with mystery crime, full of secrets and of sinister discoveries. It is an interesting and entertaining read. 😁

The book is very unrealistic, but entertaining and engaging. It's a great continuation of the story.

Nute It feels like her books are just meant to fun. There‘s a place for that along with all of the heavy reading material that we read through in the year. Right? Here lately, I‘ve been feeling like I need more of it, purely entertaining literature.😃 1mo

It was not predictable and had twists but characters were unlikable and storytelling was boring. It is readable, but there is too much of physical, emotional, animal, and alcohol abuse. I am not a fan of this dark domestic drama...

I didn't like this romantic dystopia. The author tries too hard to be clever and poetic...
There is so little plot. The crossed out sentences and repetition were unusual, unique but annoying, especially because it does not seem possible! How can she run away and cross-out? Juliette's “power“ is never fully explained...
Nevertheless, I didn't hate it - I might read the next book :)

It's was OK, although it was a weird book: charming story, where everything was made cute. Cute suicide, cute violent sudden death, cute baby abandonment, cute heartlessness, cute infidelity, cute alcoholism... 😕
Also, it is a story of love, loss, and second chances. And love for books, the importance of reading 👏
