Walk Two Moons | Sharon Creech

I currently have 2 hours of free time to read. YAY!!And that's in the library. The last time I read in the library was when I was a student, but I read professional books. My daughter has signed up for creative workshops at the library and I can read in peace while I wait for her. It is raining outside. For me, this is a great afternoon after a hard day's work.

4 ⭐ First thing, as a Gen X are I feel the submarine should be yellow. However, this was a fun book. It sounds like Paul McCartney. A reader can picture him standing up there telling this story to his grandchildren. And that‘s what makes this picture book successful. The illustrations definitely help it along as they match perfectly to the tone and the ideas put in a person‘s head by the story.

Bailedbailed

Miranda‘s grandparents are survivors from France. Anna,a doctor, & Armand,an interpreter at the Nuremberg Trials& later the UN,separate after the war, divorce & don‘t speak to &only with hate about one another for fifty years.Miranda goes on a journey to find out why/what happened to them. As much as I wanted to get to the end, this is another book I‘m bailing on. 😢

This novel is aimed at middle grade readers, but held me captive for sure. Jake charts his challenges with anorexia and OCD in this heartbreaking, but ultimately hopeful novel in verse. Jake and his grandmother share a love of musical theatre and reading. But he struggles to connect with friends his own age and fights off a very controlling voice in his head that is causing him great suffering. This beautiful book shares Jake's journey to healing.

Even with less than 100 pages, Backman can infuse a story with depth and emotion.
