Maajid became radicalized after experiencing racism, police violence, and incarceration, but changed his mind and called for a secular Islam while incarcerated after reading books about human rights and working with Amnesty International. Today, he still helps others to deconstruct. Listen to his Ted Talk here: https://youtu.be/EZwxKPv1CwA?si=kuyNO4i-wx2_GdMm

Another short listed book for the Stella. The writing is exquisite and I had to really concentrate in places. It dragged somewhat for me at times. But has got me really thinking after I read the authors note.

Since I‘m a born muslim I would say that a lot of messages were already clear to me.
If I was a revert or someone who is simply interested in the core messages of Islam then I would recommend it for sure! But it was also refreshing for me and it gave me a kinda new perspective on some stuff.

This one might be a little tough. How did Islam influence Christianity during this time period? #islam #christianity #discussion #ashorthistoryofbyzantium #catholicchurch #byzantium #byzantineempire #johnjuliusnorwich #popeleo #iconoclasm

Very interesting perspective on the history of the animosity between the West and Islam. Ibrahim lays out the most important battles between the two and how they shaped the world

An incredible story of a woman‘s resilience in the face of oppressive Islamic faith. This story truly opened my eyes to the reality of what it means to be an Islamic woman and how some western cultures are not helping them move forward. Having studied religion and female oppression extensively, I found this book gave a pure-voiced clarity about what I already feared for Islamic women
