While there are a couple of dark moments, for the most part, this is a lovely little romp, perfect for the Great British Bakeoff fan. I did find it difficult to reconcile how Alain's character shifted but maybe that's just how dudes are :P

Roll 98 for #Roll100

Prairiegirl_reading I loved this and also I could not put into words how it‘s funny and light and also there is a scene that is really sexual assault. That just doesn‘t compute in my brain and yet I still loved it. The third instalment of this series comes out later this year and I‘m really looking forward to it. 2w

janeycanuck @Prairiegirl_reading there was a content warning in the front of my copy so I knew that was coming. Is the second one and the same vein? I‘ve gone back and forth on picking it up. I find when it‘s the setting that‘s the same and not the characters, you can end up with something totally different 2w
Prairiegirl_reading @janeycanuck I must have missed the content warning! The second book is the same structure with the baking show but different characters and the main character has anxiety. I know some people found him annoying but I personally connected with his anxiety. It‘s not as good as this one but I still liked it. 2w

Mmmm I thought this was YA, since the MC is 16, but…maybe like older YA?? It was alright. The story felt a little half-baked, and it was a lot of sitting around and waiting for things to happen. Also, how in this small town has no one noticed a BASEMENT full of goths going missing???

A page-turning mystery about five queer characters (plus token straight guy) taking part in a reality TV show. Often quite funny, it's sort of part of the reality TV genre but also laughing at it. Lots of #bisexual chaos! Feminist critique of "nice guys" is spot on as is interrogation of the controlling abusive guy who claims to just be setting boundaries. They are all terrible people, but which one killed the guy who died in the last episode?

My #roll100 picks for March are all set! I didn‘t get around to any of my February picks, but I read two of my January picks, which I think counts 😆 as always, thanks @PuddleJumper for helping me work my way through my Libby and Hoopla to-read lists.

Quite possibly one of the stupidest books I have ever read. I should have bailed, but felt I owed it to the author to at least struggle through it. I skimmed the final 8 chapters, as it was too agonizing to actually read. Characters that readers won‘t care about, a storyline that is just a little too precious and obvious, and a convenient love story that is so forced. Save yourself from this book, it is, sadly, not worth it.

Ahhhh, this was so good! I tore on through it in less than a day, thoroughly caught up in Imogen‘s identity struggles and her intense friendships. I laughed A LOT (especially at the small German sausage), nodded along with Imogen‘s thought processes, and desperately hoped for her to reject Gretchen‘s prescriptive declarations. It‘ll stay with me for a long while.

Also, I think both Imogen and Tessa would approve of my penguin. #AuldLangSpine2025

peanutnine Yessss this one is so easily devourable! Imogen is so relatable. And she and Tessa would LOVE your penguin! ☺️ 8mo
xicanti @peanutnine it has a tail around the other side! Definitely the sort of mug to captivate bantersome fictional characters who like cute stuff. 8mo

12-11-24: My 46th finished book of 2024! This was a sexually charged novel about the life of a bisexual writer. From growing up in a small town in Vermont where his mother and stepfather taught him a love for Shakespeare to the town librarian who taught him a love for reading and himself. We follow him into his late 60s through his youth, to NYC and the AIDS epidemic, and back to Vermont again. A love letter to being true to yourself. 💖
