The audiobook, read by the author, of this memoir is the way to go; I loved hearing the details of Brookins‘ experiences as told with emotion and authenticity. An account of finding one‘s own way, regardless of the stories told by others about the way they SHOULD be. It‘s about gender and sexuality, especially in black culture. It‘s about finding the truth and living in it.
I liked the first half of this book but the second half was eh. I thought after Maria met James the story would go somewhere but it fell off.
