When @Robotswithpersonality posted their review of this manga I went searching in my kindle since I had a vague memory of purchasing this. Lo and behold there it was in my library. I enjoyed this one and the art. I now wish I had sprung for the physical copy so I could have given the art the admiration is deserves.

Spectacular. Certainly took some darker turns with more pathos than I initially anticipated, but the fantastical elements are gorgeously rendered and truly imaginative.
I'm usually a big grump about illustrated works in black and white/gray scale, but this was beautiful even without colour. To think I found out about it because of an ad in the back of a The Way of the Househusband manga! 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? - where I usually expect gray scale and a somewhat limited style - this was not that.
The shifting of the cats back and forth between a true to life depiction and a stylized cat-person anthropomorphic form personalized for each cat character added to the sense of them as individuals, and made the art unlike anything I've seen before.

Robotswithpersonality 3/? The traveling into paintings, the emphasis on a love of art and the importance of preservation, the thread of loss, the message of staying safe versus facing risk, and what the costs are for each, the struggle to determine which life suits you best, it's all interwoven in a way that hits you upon reflection, after being carried along by the story and its plot(s). It doesn't flinch away from the realities that cats without shelter face, anymore 2mo
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 than the reality that sometimes the hoped for (career, reunion) does not occur.
And yet, I still ended up feeling like the ending was exactly what the story needed.
You never know how a new favourite book will be discovered. ☺️

Sace So apparently I own this on kindle and forgot. I‘m adding it to my immediate TBR. I don‘t read much in August so manga might be the perfect remedy for that. 2mo
Robotswithpersonality @Sace Hurray! I love hearing about buried book treasure. ☺️ Hope you love it. 2mo

I just don't appreciate satire the way it deserves to be appreciated. This had a lot of intruiging and funny moments, and I loved the jokes on framing and the Mona Lisa, but I just didn't enjoy this Louvre comic that much. #Comic #Louvre

I can‘t decide if I am intrigued by this absurd comic poking fun at museums, art academia, and itself, or if I hate it. Either way, this discussion about literal framed art devolving into such simple frames that the curator imagines art presented as sequences (that look familiar to any comic reader) is killing me 😆

I didn't enjoy this as much as the first Louvre comic I read, but it was intriguing enough. The ending wasn't particularly satisfying because it didn't really answer any of the mysteries it set up. It just kind of ended on a vague note that I'm sure many readers will enjoy the artistry of, but I was waiting to find a connection with the characters in some ending revelation and it never came. #Comic #Louvre

A thoroughly gorgeous work of art. I loved seeing all of the illustrations of the Louvre and its art as the main character made his way through art history, especially exploring Japanese art history. I learned quite a bit from this book, including that the Louvre's art was evacuated ahead of the Nazi invasion of France. #Art #History #Manga

By absolute coincidence, this is the second manga I've read this month (this week, even!) that has the Louvre in it!

Lindy I love this kind of serendipity. Plus, you have made me want to visit the Louvre again. 🇫🇷 3y
Kenyazero @Lindy Haha, same to both! I got to visit the Louvre once as a teen while traveling with an organization connecting kids with world travel. 3y

Part of a series of graphic novels commissioned by the Louvre, this manga tells the tale of a Japanese artist visiting Paris who enters the feverish dream-space where art & his unconscious mind meet. The episodic nature of the book highlights individual artists displayed in the Louvre, & the chapters cover the Japanese links to Camille Corot & Van Gogh, for example, while another deals with the transportation+preservation of artwork ahead of WWII.

batsy Although there is not much in the way of a plot, & the narrative arc itself can be a bit cheesy or sentimental, the art in this manga is gorgeous & something about the pace of the book is calming & nourishing. It was exactly the kind of book I wanted to lose myself in over the weekend. It has some pretty traditional views about art, but even within that sentiment there's a lot that can be true & beautiful, depending on your mood. I enjoyed it. 4y
