People wander through the snow in despair; a strange bird accosts two fur-coated gentlemen; random objects fall from the sky; an orphan child freezes to death by the roadside; vague figures lurk at the peripheries; there is no narrative, nor any explanation other than those the reader willfully imposes or has unwillingly evoked.
Yes, it's Edward Gorey 🪦

bibliothecarivs Sounds about right. I love Gorey but haven't read this one. 1mo
Bookwomble @bibliothecarivs It's a typical Gorey, which I mean as high praise. One of his bleaker offerings, I think. Not many laughs in the frozen corpse of a child. 1mo

#Bookreport

📚Currently reading:

📕Fire & Blood
📕Akechi Kogoro
📙The Witness for the Dead

Progress:
last week was super productive in terms of books I've finished. 4 anthologies and Project Hail Mary was a delight. I moved on to Fire & Blood, but I still need to pick something lighter to listen to between F&B and detective fiction. Hoping next week will be similarly productive.

These are getting harder to find, but I am really enjoying the variety in these complications.

These were all so interesting, would definitely recommend these anthologies, especially for the Halloween season.

I'm surprised I haven't heard much about Edward Gorey before, his work is so morbidly delightful.

Bookwomble He's fantastic 😊 5mo

Informative, somewhat macabre, Gorgeous. Part photography book part history tome. I learned a bit and was in awe of the photographs. Will definitely check out this authors other book about ossuaries.

I wanted something fun and fast, but God, was this one a slog.

Most of the narration is the first person, and the narrator is unreliable (which is great) and cringingly unlikable (which is not). I like reading about bad people—unless they‘re basic bastards.

Were we supposed to sympathize...?

(I so did not)

And the creepy instalove. Oh my gawd, the instalove 🤮

(The MC‘s credibility we‘ll not talk about)

Why can‘t I just DNF books???
