I'm surprised I haven't heard much about Edward Gorey before, his work is so morbidly delightful.

Lazy Sunday with all of my boys. I think it‘s safe to say they all missed me 😂

I‘m back from my work trip and I am e x h a u s t e d. Aside from reading a single chapter on the plane trip there, I read nothing while I was gone. I did, however, just pick up this beautiful stack of holds from the library and am looking forward to digging in once I get some good rest 🤩
This volume collects 15 books published from 1953 until 1965 including the flawless The Vinegar Works (comprised of The Gashlycrumb Tinies, The Insect God & The West Wing). Gorey's sensibility, Lewis Carroll's nonsense verse with a decidedly macabre edge, has had a cultural influence & this was a great volume to read at this time of year. Or, anytime really. I believe there are at least 2 more similar volumes, will definitely be looking into them.
#gratefulreads Day 6 my newest #bookgifts were these two....hadn't heard of them and can't wait to read them

My lovely friend gave me loads of book related birthday gifts this weekend.... The books look so interesting (tagged)... Fun bookish bits n bobs including a bookish key keyring and a bookmark that looks like a zip at the top of the page ... The wood covered 'notebook' actually opens into a book light. What an awesome bezzie #kindness #bookishgifts

Father's Day gift from my daughter - 1000 pieces of Edward Gorey 😍
I love the ways books find us/we find them. I was reading about a new biography about Gorey (it‘s getting very good reviews) which of course mentioned that he did the opening credits for Mystery! back in the day. And then it mentioned some of the authors who like his work & I decided I had to read the tagged book, which collects 15 of his stories (most for kids). Odd, fantastic, dark, whimsical, eerie, brooding, mysterious, & loads of fun
I loved this! I was introduced to Gorey through his illustrations for John Bellairs‘ books back when I was in fourth grade, but I had never actually read any of his own stories. “Amphigorey” is a great Gorey starter — and of course my favourite book ended up being “The Gashlycrumb Tinies.” Deliciously unsettling artwork and nonsensical stories make for a great combination.
Less than two weeks later, the baby gate is down, the shy boy is beginning to leave his cave, and most importantly, the kitties are becoming fast friends and even playing together! So happy this introduction has been a success! 😻😻 #catsoflitsy
(books on rocking chair tagged to pretend this is about books)
Perfectly horrid and wonderfully morbid. I was lost a bit in some of the dreamlike stories, but the limericks scratched an itch I didn't know I had.
Book Outlet book haul (3/3) Love the covers!
Creepy, crazy Gorey! But can't help loving his work..
I love Edward Gorey 😂😜 Finally getting around to this one, hopefully I finish it before it's due back at the library!
