#AuldLangSpine About Me @monalyisha
-My partner Linda and I met at a party in Long Island that I almost didn't go to, and somehow, 14 years passed. The upper left pic is from a Halloween party this year, me as a deranged emoticon, points for ID'ing Linda's character (think early 2000s TV, and not usually painted blue)
-I know it looks like we have a 2-headed cat, but this is Jem (left) & Scout (right), brothers as cute and cuddly as they come 👇

Billypar Other stuff:
- I'm originally from PA not far from Philly
- I commute from NJ to NYC where I work for the state mental health agency as a project manager
-Proud uncle to a 6- and 8-year old: both are readers, and my niece is pretty voracious.
-Big music fan - we covered punk and garage rock in your post, but I also like hip hop, soul, jazz, and pop, among others.
-Birding is my favorite non-reading hobby. And birding in marshes especially.

JamieArc @Billypar Have you read Questlove‘s books? Seems like they may be up your alley… 7h
monalyisha Hi Jemnscout (doesn‘t work quite as well as Samneric 👑🪰 — going for a literary classics mash-up & failing 😅)! 6h
monalyisha I get those bonus points because I immediately thought, “I blue myself.” Fantastic/hilarious costume. Very committed! 6h
monalyisha So cool that your nieces are readers! If you ever need book recommendations, I offer myself as their librarian-by-proxy. 🤓 6h
monalyisha I *wish* birding was my thing! And marshes are such a cool environment! Maybe one day? I‘m honestly SO BAD at seeing small wildlife even when it‘s directly pointed out to me. I blame my terrible eyesight (but I fear it might just be me). It‘s a skill, for sure! 6h
Billypar @JamieArc I actually haven't yet, but they're on my list - I've listened to his podcast for years. I have read his band mate's book, which I really liked. 5h
JamieArc @Billypar Ha! I was also going to mention Upcycled. I got it for my husband a couple of years ago and he liked it. Also, if you ever get the chance to go to southern AZ, it‘s great for birding. I happened to be there and a friend took me birding. It was a really cool experience. 5h
Billypar @monalyisha I only read LotF a year or two ago for the first time, but I still had to look up that reference. There's got to be some kind of listical for literary pet sibling names right?
And re: the costume guess, that totally counts 🫂
5h
Billypar @monalyisha I might take you up on the kid- books recommendation offer. Even though my nephew reads now, I could see him falling out of it if he doesn't keep finding books he can get excited enough about. 5h
Billypar @monalyisha The good news about birding is I think it's a very learnable skill. My friend got me into it, and I'm nowhere close to her skills at id'ing by sight or calls, but I still learned enough to make it fun to do, without having any obvious natural ability 🐦🦅 5h
Billypar @JamieARC The only time I visited AZ was before my birding hobby started, so I missed that aspect. I would love to visit again though, so I'll keep that in mind! 4h
BarbaraBB Very nice to learn a bit more about you 🤍 4h

Here's my #20ThingsAboutMe for #AuldLangSpine @Itchyfeetreader @monalyisha
I can expand on anything you have questions on.

dabbe #17: 🎯♥️🎯 6d
Bklover #15 and #17 ❤️❤️❤️❤️ me too! 5d
Itchyfeetreader Sorry I have bene a bit delayed in responding - this is an awesome list @Born.A.Reader Its clear @Monalysha wins again as #5, 7, 8, 10, 13, 18 and 19 are alll also true for me! And on number 4 one of my fun facts (not on my list) is that I got married at the chapel at the Tower of London - starting marriage where Anne Bolyn is allegedy buried may not be auspicious but we seem to be holding on in! 2d
Born.A.Reader @Itchyfeetreader That is such a neat fact! One day I'd like to make it over to England, and the Tower is on my list to visit. Medieval England is my favorite era within historical fiction. 2d

Mel is an idol, but this book wasn‘t everything it could‘ve been. The subtitle you see about his remarkable life in show business is true, and he‘s honest about it, you don‘t get a ton about the man‘s feelings. I loved reading about his early life and wartime adventures but then you mostly get IMDB trivia equivalents. One passage I‘m almost certain was copied from his son‘s Wikipedia page, nearly verbatim. Only for Brooks diehards.

Mel Brooks is an American treasure. He is the mastermind behind some of the funniest films, television, and Broadway productions of all time. "All About Me!" chronicles his life, from his childhood in Brooklyn to the heights of success in entertainment. What appealed to me most about this book was his work ethic. He may be one of the hardest working entertainers in history.

TieDyeDude OMG, I listened to this on audio, and even though it was 15 hours, I could have listened to it for 15 more. Such a legend, and a born storyteller. I loved hearing about his youth as much as the behind-the-scene Hollywood stuff. One of my favorite celebrity memoirs. 2y

I had the wherewithal to download a book while I had Wi-Fi, so I'd have something besides radio to listen to while I don't have Wi-Fi. I really enjoyed hanging out with Uncle Mel. Now I need another book while I wait for my hold on the Winkler book but it's hard to stop catching up on TV long enough to think of something.

I bounced between the physical and the audio for this, which I recommend because there are tons of photos in the book, but you‘ve got to hear Mel singing bits of the songs he‘s written for his movies and shows!

I really loved this. I‘m inspired to check out some of his movies I‘ve never seen (Silent Movie?!), and definitely will rewatch The Producers, which is my favorite of his works (I love both versions.)

A lot of tooting his own horn, ⬇️

Soubhiville But really that‘s fitting with his personality and where/ when he grew up. Plus he‘s 95 and accomplished so much! Pushed so many boundaries, and brought laughter to the world. Thanks Donna, I loved this, and my husband is going to dive into it next. 🥰 3y
AmyG I loved the audio. And his movies are the BEST. Young Frankenstein being my favorite. 3y
ShelleyBooksie Venkman? ♡♡♡♡♡♡ 3y

dabbe @AmyG That is my husband's all-time favorite; Blazing Saddles is a close 2nd. I showed it once to my sophomore students, and the ONLY thing they laughed at (or got) was the Abby Normal scene. 🤦‍♀️ #gofigure 3y
Soubhiville @ShelleyBooksie yep, that‘s Venkman. I should have tried to get the photo with Igor… but he tends to be under covers much more of the time. 3y
AmyG @dabbe Yeah, kids. Different kind of humor. I, too, love Blazing Saddles. 3y
Soubhiville @AmyG @dabbe all the love for Young Frankenstein! I didn‘t love Blazing Saddles, but I think I‘d like it more after reading this. I also loved Spaceballs, recently rewatched that 🙂💕. 3y
AmyG Spaceballs! I haven‘t watched that in years. 3y
dabbe @Soubhiville Oh, Lordy, forgot all about Spaceballs! Will have to watch that, too!

Hello, Mr. Vivacious Venkman! ❣️🐾❣️
3y
MemoirsForMe Yay! Glad Mel is filling your home with more laughter. I agree, I need to rewatch many of the movies mentioned. Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety and the old version of The Producers are still my favorites. And now I must listen to the audio version! 3y

What a sweet surprise in my mailbox today! Thank you Donna @UwannaPublishme ! I‘ve already flipped through and gotten nostalgic for some of the photos. I‘m excited to read it. 💕📚

I showed Igor his namesake‘s picture, he can‘t wait to hear more 😸.

MemoirsForMe This is a book that must be shared, especially among us devoted Mel Brooks fans! You‘ll be laughing out loud often, guaranteed. I had no idea that your Igor was named after such a memorable and hilarious character. Love it! 😹 3y
