Investigative reporting on the May 2001 attempt of twenty-six men to cross the Mexican border into the desert of southern Arizona, a region known as the Devil's Highway. More than half of the men did not survive the journey. By focusing on each man and the circumstances that caused them to make the decision to cross the border and risk death, Urrea humanizes a population too often vilified. #maybookflowers #mexicanamericanauthors

I read this as part of a "One City, One Book" thing a few years ago. The story was good and moved at a quick pace. My DKG chapter had a good book discussion over it, too. #mexicanamericanauthors #maybookflowers

A little late, but my favorite #mexicanamericanauthors is Gary Soto. This is a collection of his poems primarily about growing up in California.

One of my favorite recent audiobooks and pick for #MexicanAmericanAuthors is definitely this one. I listened to over 6 hrs in one sitting because I just couldn't stop! I felt such a connection to both these teenage boys and Lin-Manual Miranda's narration is amazing. I highly recommend 💜💙💚💛❤️

#maybookflowers 🌸💐#Mexicanamericanauthors. I have a lot of southern American authors in my library but no one born in Mexico, Ana Castillo is as close as I have ❤️📚

I really enjoyed this one. Over-the-top, crazy fun. Assassins, oracles, mechanical robot arms, bureaucracy. This book has everything.

I was going to take a picture of The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, but forgot before I left this morning! I saw him speak in March and that one is still on my TBR.

One thing I enjoy about doing these photo challenges is finding new books to fit the themes. In the library today I found this series of memoirs from Francisco Jimenez about immigrating to America from Mexico, his childhood as a migrant worker and life beyond.

I've really struggled (again) for #Mexicanauthors or #MexicanAmericanAuthors from my shelves or TBR for #maybookflowers today. I do have an e-arc of this (hence the ugly non-cover!), which I'm super excited to read, but I can't discover if Gonzales actually fits the brief. I am enjoying looking at everyone else's picks and adding to the to my to-read list! 📚 🇲🇽 📖

This novel has been on my #TBR list for months. I love Benjamin Alire Saenz's work and can't wait to finally have time to read this one. #mexicanauthors #mexicanamericanauthors #mexicanwriters #mexicanamericanwriters #mexicanormexicanamericanauthors #mexicanormexicanamericanwriters #maybookflowers
