#Onceyougoblackout Day 5: Short Stories/Essays 📚
Not usually one to go for short story collections, but I was really drawn to and intrigued by these.
Just finished Friday Black a few days ago and can‘t wait to dive into the other two!

Actual perfection. Three blessed (or cursed) souls fight for versions of freedom, intermingling with one another and the history of the founding of Liberia. So, so good. Magical realism at its finest, paying tribute to African folklore and with lyrical prose. All the stars. All of them. #readingblackout #onceyougoblackout
#Onceyougoblackout Day 4: Film/TV Adaption 🎬🍿
A few books in my collection that have been adapted for the screen recently or in the past.
Gathering them together, I realize that each one has made me cry in one way or another, even though I went in having read the book beforehand 🙈 - but then again, reading something happening and then actually seeing it happen can be completely different experiences.

#Riotgrams Day 17: Contemporary Black Authors 😍✊🏾
Just added Black Leopard, Red Wolf to my growing collection after hearing great reviews and reading a sample - can‘t wait to actually sit down and absorb it!

An incisive, searing satire set in a future post-post-racial America where a Black man risks his very soul to try to save his son from being Black in this country. Really, really powerful and all too realistic. #readingblackout #onceyougoblackout

#Onceyougoblackout Day 1: Backlist
“Two things everybody‘s got tuh do fuh theyselves. They got tuh go tuh God and they got tuh find out about livin‘ fuh theyselves”
I read this for the first time back in high school and completely fell in love with Zora Neale Hurston‘s writing. It‘s such a beautiful story about relationships and identity and I never get tired of reading it.
