The Island | Armin Greder

#StorySettings Day 28: The #Island is one of the most disturbing picturebooks for young people that I often recommend. At the very core of this book is an overwhelming fear of those who are different. The storytelling straightforward, the plot crystal clear with a continual build-up that puts a growing lump in the reader‘s throat as one witnesses the extent of the many atrocities people tend to commit in the name of fear. https://wp.me/pDlzr-40F

I have heard about this book for a long time and after recently hearing the author on a podcast decided to read the young adult version. While it's not the most uplifting book, it is hopeful. Progress of prison reform, while painfully slow, is being made thanks to the author's organization the Equal Justice Initiative (EJL).

Tamra Highly recommend the adult edition too. 💙 2y

I loved this book, it was little dry at first It took my awhile to get into it, but by the middle of the book I didn‘t want to put it down. Although the ending was so exciting i wish it could go on a little more. I was was left in the dust when I didn‘t get the ending I thought there was going to be. Over all I liked the book I just wished there was a better ending.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

Day 79th

Join the fun if you want!

First day back in work since Christmas was very weird with no children. Key worker children will be with us tomorrow. Nearly a year later and it all starts again 😢
Going to try and clear my mind and start my new book 📖

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent narration by the author himself. I‘d love to teach parts of this along with TKAM. I haven‘t seen the film but have heard good things about it as well.

Scochrane26 We watched the movie w/ youth group, & it‘s really good. There were tears involved. 4y
