This was a fairly quick listen and would be an accessible introduction to Jane Austen for younger YA readers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I recently finished The Housemaid and can‘t help but notice the similarities between the husbands/wives and housemaid/babysitter. Really making me suspicious of these employers!

😭😭😭 the worst book hangover I‘ve had in a loooonnnnggggg time 😩😩😩 I listened to the first six novels in this series when I was commuting for work. This is the first one I‘ve read (as opposed to listening), and it is probably my favourite so far. I also really liked that it took place in Edinburgh, which I‘m missing something fierce! The cliffhanger in this one though, y‘all — prepare yourself!

I wanted to read this as I was really intrigued by the concept of people starting anew and to see how this group evolved. My interest in books like Where the Crawdad‘s Sing, Educated, The Silent Alone & Prodigal Summer led me to this title — if enjoyed any of those titles, you might like this one too

The southern lady stereotype was spot on at certain points, which I appreciated as I‘ve been so long away from that. It helped me immediately identify with these women. However, there was a big part of me that wanted this to be something more than it was. There‘s a metaphor in there I‘m sure but it‘s not near as powerful as I‘d hoped it‘s be. ⚰️⚰️⚰️

BlueMoonJ This book fascinated me. The horror was a lot more than just a vampire. Worse even. Trying not to post spoilers. 2y
Librariana I felt very similarly about it - wanted it to be more than what it was. 2y
Ms.Story @BlueMoonJ I‘m glad to hear you liked it! I‘m worried I moved through the audio too quickly as there‘s something there but it just hasn‘t clicked for me yet. But ... I definitely saw a range of things/people that drained life and purpose from these women. 2y
Reggie @BlueMoonJ was it the husbands? Cause they were HORRIBLE. I wanted to punch all of them. 2y
