Finished this while my baby played w/ her blocks! There's a lot of set up in this 1st volume about a dystopian high school on the moon for delinquent students; the plot doesn't get going until near the end. But aesthetically & artistically I loved this so much I didn't care. It feels simultaneously futuristic yet retro, punk and outer space influenced. The dialogue is sharp and funny. I can't wait to see where the three girls go in the next book!

While Kabi's sexual orientation does play a pivotal role in her manga, its her battle with deep depression and extreme anxiety that saturates most of the narrative. She manages to visually convey so much of the inner torment that mental health brings, it made me tear up. Her explanation on self harm brought to words what I have always thought myself. It was beautiful and powerful and I want to share it with everyone!

When I first heard Gengoroh Tagame had made a sweet, slice-of-life story I was blown away. Its such a huge departure from his regular work! I'm sure you'll love the sweet nature of this book. It tackles great topics such as homosexuality, divorce and separation, being a single dad, and the prejudices in Japanese society.
