Thanks @Eggs for the #WondrousWednesday tag. 🤗 I‘m a little late as usual.

1️⃣ The tagged book wrecked me emotionally as it hit too close to home & felt so real.😱 The Frozen River was a favorite & I keep thinking about it. The Feather Thief was just so interesting, I‘ve recommended it to several people.

2️⃣ I haven‘t DNFed so far this year! So far so good.

I‘m late so if you haven‘t played & want to, consider yourself tagged. 🤗

Texreader I‘ve only read Feather Thief of the books you listed but wasn‘t it good? 19h
DebinHawaii @Texreader So good! 17h
Eggs I do love Ariel Lawhon! Loved the characters/relationships in Frozen Winter! 8h

#whereareyoumonday

I appear to be in Kingston upon Thames in greater London some time earlier this century with a young Nigerian refugee, Little Bee, and a recently widowed mother and her young son. There‘s a bit of a mystery as to how they are connected and what Little Bee has escaped.

Susanita I was thinking of this book today… 4d
Ruthiella @Susanita I‘ve only read the first three chapters, but her situation as someone seeking asylum in a society that doesn‘t really want to provide it is timely. 4d

Pickpick

Ireland is falling apart. The government is turning against its people and Eilish's husband has disappeared. As a mother of four, with a father slowly losing his memories, Eilish is in full survival mode.

This book is raw, intense and made my heart pound. Every scene here we've seen on the news. We know this story, but we're aren't used to reading about it affecting Westerners. Affecting white people.

And that's the point.

Pickpick

I liked the interwoven stories and the parallels between the Kindertransport children of WWII and the refugee children separated from their parents at the US border in more recent times. It makes me very sad to think of these situations that are still affecting many refugees today.

Someone on Goodreads described this novel as quietly brutal and quietly beautiful, and I don't think that I could describe it much more accurately than that. My rating isn't higher because despite all of its beauty and brutality, I found it also somewhat monotonous at times.

I read this book for #FoodandLit. I found it hard to read because it felt like one long paragraph after another because of no quotes when the characters were speaking. It was hard for me to get used to. I found it hard to understand what was going on. And still the ending left me with so many questions. I wanted to yell at the main character a few times as well. Overall, I thought the book was ok. #Read2025 @Texreader @Catsandbooks @DieAReader
