I have to say, it took effort to get past the first 50 or so pages as there seemed to be loads of characters and their names changed depending on who was with them. But reading larger chunks helped somewhat. Then I discovered the cute family tree at the back...
It was a truly heartfelt story, influenced by the author's family, and I became invested in the relationships.

They specialize in fantasy, sci-fi, YA, mystery, and horror. Awesome atmosphere and inventory, plus really great staff. They recommended the tagged book for those who like gothic haunting stories.
Oh, and you can‘t beat the views or the weather here. Wish I could stay longer!

pickKaren Rose gives her readers impressive characters and a malicious villain, leaving you on pins and needles throughout the novel and absolutely stunned at the ending.
It is hot and dusty where we live. Some people think it's dirty but they don't know much about us. They haven't seen our gardens full of lemongrass, mint, cilantro, and basil. Driving by with their windows rolled up, they've only seen the pigeons pecking at day-old rice and the skinny cats and dogs sitting in the skinny shade of skinny trees. Have they seen the berries that we pick, that turn our lips and fingertips red?

pickIf you already love Rose‘s previous series, you‘ll love this. A new series with all new characters so far. Enjoyed the introduction to them all. The police procedural stuff was great and as always, didn‘t spot the killer!
