Terrible writing but a good story. I can overlook grammatical errors but bad stories make my heart hurt 💔

BookmarkTavern Everyone makes errors sometimes, so it‘s easier to move past those! Thanks for sharing! 7h

I would rather read a book with terrible writing but a good story. The content is more important to me than perfect spelling or grammar. As long as I can follow the story, I‘m good!

Really bad writing can sometimes be amusing in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 way, but a bad story really annoys me.

I‘ll bail in a heartbeat if the story is so bad that I don‘t even care what happens.

That is a tough one but I think I would rather read a bad story with good writing… I can get past the bad plot if the writing is good!

I have read both types. Several times. And I have powered through to the end on both types. Several times.

And I find myself wishing I had bailed on the terrible stories more often. 😅 So, I‘d rather read a good story, but terrible writing.

#SundayFunday I hope you all have a nice, relaxing Sunday, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

TreenaReads Terrible story/good writing 1d
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Agreed. If you are enjoying the premise or care for the characters - bad writing can be (somewhat) overlooked. 1d
konlitsy I've read many stories with similar plots, but what truly sets them apart is the writing style. For me, how a story is written matters more than the story itself. The author's unique style, tone, and language bring the narrative to life and make it engaging. This is why I value the writing process more than the plot itself. 1d
willaful I just can't with either. 1d

I read self-help books on topics relevant to my life. I avoid ones with a “this is the only way/right way to do things” or “do this and all your problems will go away” messages. We are different and what works for one person may not work for another.

I‘m still reading this book, but so far it‘s been a good tool for healing my childhood trauma.

#SundayFunday

BookmarkTavern I avoid those ones too! Thanks for posting! 1w

I don‘t read self help books very often. I guess I find memoirs and novels more meaningful for life advice?

The tagged book is one I read a couple years ago as part of a summer book club. It was interesting enough but didn‘t really stick with me. In fact, upon consulting my reading journal, I see that some of his advice actually annoyed me. Example: Never ever quit. IMHO sometimes quitting is exactly what you need to do.

#sundayfunday

Kerrbearlib I agree. Sometimes quitting is what we need to do. I‘d love to find a good self-help book that helps people decide when to quit vs when to stick with something. 1w
Karkar This helped me a lot. I was stressing way to much and it helped me to not give a f*ck all the time about things that did not even matter 1w
BookmarkTavern Totally agree on quitting! It‘s not a weakness to admit when something is no longer working for you and walking away. Thanks for sharing! 1w

I am a bit of a Negative Nancy when it comes to self help. I think most of the books can be super harmful, and are filled with junk (if filled at all). But I do love podcasts that rip these books apart!

The tagged is the book from the podcasters who do By The Book where they live by a book for a week and judge it. I also love If Books Could Kill that deep dives into the people and ideas in popular SH books.

Susanita I loved By the Book. 1w
Kerrbearlib Stacked! I am also going to check out that podcast. 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures @Kerrbearlib the pod is over now I think but is so great! Kristin is a huge skeptic and Jolenta is a true believer so the dynamic is really good and I like that they give each book a fair shot. 1w
