I wanted to read this book, and it‘s companion “Surrounded by Psychopaths,” because I thought they would help me prepare for interviewing for new jobs after my job in Dallas can no longer be done remotely (from 1,100 miles away). I was enjoying it until I went looking for tests to verify which “color” I was. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics I never found an answer, but I did find that my uncertainty existed not because something is wrong with me, but because the book itself is pseudoscientific madness. Well, this is a disappointment. I was so looking forward to reading about how not to be manipulated, but it turns out Erikson is a conman. I‘m sorry I gave him money now.

GingerAntics Turns out the Myers–Briggs test is total BS too. To think I once had a psychology prof give us the DISC test that Erikson used and another that gave us Myers–Briggs; even though both are pseudoscience. That is not reassuring. 3y

GingerAntics This book is passive aggressive and confrontational. It describes verbally abusive people in the first chapter, not poor communicators. It‘s full of pop-psychology, pseudo-expertise, and platitudes. It even suggests that these “poor communicators” (verbally abusive people) should have a child in order to get in touch with their feelings. From the standpoint of a verbally abused child, this book feels very dangerous. 3y

GingerAntics Don‘t even get me started on the perpetuation of the ridiculous arm crossing theory (that was debunked at least 20 years ago). 3y

GingerAntics Crossed arms can mean what he you‘re not listening or are closed off emotionally, they can just as often mean someone is cold, feeling vulnerable or afraid, their arms are tired, or it‘s just comfortable to the person. Some of the best communicators and listeners in the world stand with their arms crossed quite frequently. 3y

GingerAntics You talk to them and feel you are the only person they ever want to have a conversation with, and their arms are crossed the whole time. Tone of voice, eye contact, if you‘re facing the person you‘re talking to, if your body is relaxed or tense, if you‘re actively listening are all far more important than the position in which you hold your arms. 3y

Oh good, so he recognises that passive aggression isn‘t a good form of communication. Too bad his book is dancing along the line or sarcasm and passive aggression. The first chapter is full of pseudo-expert BS (the ‘you‘ factor 🙄) and new ways for me to understand the abuse I grew up with. Fingers crossed this gets better.

I decided it would be a good idea to work on my communication skills since I‘ll be looking for a new job soon. I decided I‘d start with this small book. I didn‘t know until after I was in possession of it was self published, so I‘m rather weary. We‘ll see how this goes.

Bought this based on the title...and because my boss wants us to focus on “communication skills” with students, but gave “wax on, wax off; rinse and repeat” as instructions. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It has a specific section on teens, so fingers crossed. Just found out it was independently published when I added it to litsy, so less confident now.

I don‘t care about race, religion, sexual orientation, immigration status, but if you‘re stupid, I just can‘t with you. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I‘m not the best at customer service, but I am quite good with students. Go figure. 3y

Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics I‘m considered really good with clients- but I have this crazy issue- I expect co workers to have the same ethical and behavioral standard that I do and I have zero patience when they do not. I have the same issue with govt leadership. It‘s all wrecking me. 3y
