Omg Crystal!! I am ELATED!!! Thank you so much for this “haunting” themed #HHS!! I love it!! The cute ghost socks! My fav Reese‘s which have already been opened lol. Currently using my “read in peace” bookmark and ghostly journal. The vanilla pumpkin candles smell DELICIOUS. Thank you for adding to my collection of Tananarive Due with the tagged book!! I‘m SUPER excited about A Sunny Place, Dearest, and Ghost Club!! Thank you!! #HauntedHollowSwap

Hard to describe, but I guess I‘d categorize as magical realism. Really enjoyed getting to know the family. It had a satisfying ending.

2.75/4 ⭐️

I think this is a soft pick for me. I was expecting a different story. This wasn‘t a bad story, just sad. I enjoyed the magical realism elements. They weren‘t overpowering though. It was more like realism with a touch of magical.

On Stranger Tides | Tim Powers

My second favorite Tim Powers book, after The Anubis Gates. It has everything: pirates, zombies, ghosts, shipwrecks, and curses. The book is far, far, far better than the movie version they did with Johnny Depp as part of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Bookwomble Yes! This is an excellent book, and as you say, far superior to the films. 6mo
Blueberry That was a fun book. 6mo
BookmarkTavern What an exciting cover! Thanks for answering! 6mo
swynn I love this one too. I remember being told that it was being made into a film, then the other show dropped: " ... for the next PotC movie." I knew then what would happen, only it was even worse. 6mo

Aimeesue The Bertha thing is so creepy. NO ONE likes the name Bertha as a lovely and mellifluous name. Liar. (edited) 7mo
BarkingMadRead @Aimeesue it is 💯 messed up. So gross and super passive aggressive 7mo
Aimeesue @BarkingMadRead so controlling. Red flag! Red flag! 🚩 Sigh. Too late. 7mo
Bookwormjillk I keep confusing Rochester with Max DeWinter. We keep reading about these messed up men who believe themselves to be victims. 7mo
Librarybelle I was so confused when the narration kept changing. Admittedly, this one is a bit of a struggle for me…I feel like I‘ve not found a good rhythm yet with the writing, and we‘re near the end! 7mo
mcctrish @Librarybelle I keep wondering if I‘m the crazy one because WTF is happening 7mo
5feet.of.fury The Bertha thing, separating her from Christophine… husband is a creep. Wish the zombi got him 7mo
mcctrish @Aimeesue Bertha is brutal 7mo
5feet.of.fury @Librarybelle yeah, I do not get this one. I read through 2 pages & had no idea whose POV or what had happened. 7mo
Librarybelle Glad I‘m not the only one, @mcctrish @5feet.of.fury 7mo
IndoorDame @Bookwormjillk This actually does remind me a bit of Rebecca in the sense that all of the characters are unreliable, but there‘s still something about all of them that draws you into their worlds when they‘re the ones talking, and the whole place is intoxicating and bordering on fantastical. 7mo
willaful I continue to have no memory at all of having read this.

I'm furious and disgusted with Rochester. He's totally yellow-wallpapering Antoinette.
7mo
Clare-Dragonfly I still don‘t get why Richard wanted Antoinette to marry Rochester so badly. She had plenty of money, she could have lived independently! @IndoorDame Yes, I was also reminded of Rebecca, and you‘ve articulated why very well! 7mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly I wonder if he just didn‘t want to feel responsible for her anymore? She would have been fine by herself, I don‘t know why he felt the need to marry her off 7mo
julieclair I am so disappointed in Rochester. He used to be one of my book boyfriends, but now he‘s off the list! 7mo
TheBookHippie Sorry I bailed. Too much life going on to read this darkness. 😵‍💫 7mo
BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie you do you! No judgement here! 7mo
