Pickpick

This was an *excellent* book about how Trump's rise to power intersects with changes in TV/media. The writer posits that Trump's popularity is strengthened by the emergence of multiple niche TV and social media spaces, his history as a "reality show" host centred on ego and aggression, and shifts in how we define "truth," and that he's focused on feeding his own ego via media attention more than the common good.

Pickpick

This is 320 pgs. of hard truths, and may or may not feel like healthy quarantine reading. Especially considering how much scarier everything has gotten since Kendzior finished writing. She posits that the factors leading to the election of Donald Trump started years and years ago. But this is so much more than just one man. 4.5/5 stars

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This one is on my to-read list, not sure when I‘ll be brave enough to pick it up though! 🙈 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I hear you. I read small doses. Look at my longer review and see what you think. She has a different way of presenting stuff, so you don‘t have to read all the same litany of events again in detail. It‘s more her analysis, which I really liked. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I really liked the last book of hers I read. That one was like a collection of essays. I have a few audible credits hanging around, I should probably pick this one up and Albright‘s newest too. 5y

Lesanne On my TBR shelf. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yeah, I liked her first one also. This has some of the same vibe about Midwestern perspectives. But it stays more focused on political and economic realities. Also a lot about authoritarian regimes. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Lesanne Yeah it‘s so good! 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Your longer review is great, as always! 😉 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Aww. Thanks so much! 😍 5y
skewermann @Riveted_Reader_Melissa & @BarbaraTheBibliophage - I hope you get a chance to balance up this weighty read with a lighthearted waltz through the corridors of the Chump administration in my paint-peeling parody of "Fire & Fury"... "Dire and Puny". Based on trusted sources such as Rachel Maddow and Sarah Kendzior, "Dire and Puny" will have you wishing you had strapped on your Depends(TM) https://twitter.com/skewermann/status/1301793540624670722?s=19 3y
